“Aladdin's adventure on board Greenpeace's Rainbow Warrior was updated with new and bigger pictures during March '14 while on board Roy Maersk” I also update with a few names I found on the internet while looking for information about the Mediterranean Tour 2006. I usually never put names on my web page, but these names were all over the internet so why not?
Saturday 1stof July 2006and July started as June ended, in search for drift nets. Well, when I came on my watch at midnight it was blowing force 6 from NE and no one expected to find anynets. Our Italian Campaigner was happy because the Italian soccer team made it to the quarter final in the world championship yesterday. They were screaming in the mess room while the Italians were playing.
Our Italian volunteers had been up all the evening and half the night waiting for the 12 - 4 watch traditional spaghetti. But this morning our Italian volunteer was doing the cooking. She's a vegetarian and she has been talking about her vegetarian Carbonara for a long time. Our Campaigner had given me the Italian Spaghetti sign spiced with a Skånsk sound effect.(Seems like every one onboard tries to whistle Skåne style)
Well, anyway, this means spaghetti time and I asked our Italian volunteer ifshe wanted to make her famous Spaghetti Simonara for us. - I'm happy to do it, she said.
Our Italian Campaigner volunteered asAssistente Couco di quarto di finalefor ourCouco di quarto di finale.

I was down in the galley to check on them every now and then, and I'm very happy to be onboard with Italians. I have picked up millions of pointers that I will use in my own kitchen.
Well, we all remember the story about the cat moving in to the barn, for sure they haven't forgotten it on Rainbow Warrior. I can never get the Italian senso di punta del dito, but I think I have learnt a thing or two.
Well, anyway, if I'm just able to bring some of the Italian joy in to my kitchen I'm more than happy. I was waiting for the food on the bridge with my Lebanese Doctor and we noticed that the wind decreased and it went from a force 6 to a force 3 and we were happy about it.
Our Cook and Assistant Cook arrived a few minutes later and we were served the Spaghetti Simonara by our Assistante Excellence.
This was very good and we were soon on our second portion. Parmesan cheese is something I really have hated up to now. I'm used to the Parmesan cheese you got in the plastic bags. They have it on all those cheap “ Eat as much as you can ” restaurants, you know the powder Parmesan. Or as our Italians say, what a joke that cheese is.
-Psst, they didn't really say “ What a joke”, but I have to think about my hit counter and if I write what they said I will lose all the visitors with parental filter.
But this fresh Parmesan is really good and that's what I'm going for next time I'm cookingspaghetti at home.
When we were ready it was time for a cig and our Italian Campaigner had a cigar. We were enjoying the night (The wind were almost gone) and our Italian volunteer told me that they had an n utella
® lovers association and they have a party once a year in the village called the Alps in Italy. Seems like there is a club or association for everything now a days.
She said that everything smells of n utella
® in the city. She had been going for the party once, but she was rejected. - Members only! She had to drive back home, and that's some 80 km. Well, she told me that everything is made with n utella
®, Spaghetti di n utella
®, Pizza di n utella
® and whatever you can think of.
Well, cocktail di n utella
® could be nice, but I can imagine waking up the day after.I will find out everything about the n utella
® lovers association next time I have access to the internet.

Well, times turns quick when you have fun and it was soon 4 o'clock and the girls on the 4 - 8 watch came to relieve us. Our Spanish deckhand gave me light when I went down the stairs for my cabin. This is the last thing I see every morning when I go off my watch, she is so sweet!
We were steering towards the Capo S Maria di Leuca in Golfo di Taranto when I came on my watch at 12:00. We had strong wind from NNE and the original plan was to go and drift East of Capo S Maria di Leuca while the divers were diving. But we changed course to West and we were drifting West of Capo S Maria di Leuca while the divers were diving.

Juggling on deck
Well, the weather was nice and I appreciated the cooling wind and our Italian Interpreter/ Deckhand was on deck juggling in the sunshine and the crew took the opportunity to swim and I was correcting charts. At 3 o'clock the wind disappeared and 30 minutes later it was blowing a force 4 from the South. Quick changes in the weather around here.
I was soon off my watch and I was down to my cabin for, well, I tried to sleep but I failed so I could as well write a few words on my web page. I thought I heard the engine start, but I didn't thought about it and I noticed a list to starboard.
I continued to write and when it was time to go on deck for a cancer stick I passed the bridge andI asked our Chief Mate about the list. - We are sailing, she said.
I looked out and I could see the sails and now I noticed that it was quiet without the engine, nice. I knew my sailing shoes were coming in handy. I'm the only one with sailing shoes onboard, hmm, maybe I have to take them off. When people see me in my shoes they might start asking questions about sailing and I know fåck all about sailing.Embarrassing!
I meet some of the crew on deck in front of the bridge and our Spanish volunteer wanted to have a picture of him with the sail in the back. We had not been taking many pictures before our Doctor arrived and she also wanted to be on the pictures.

Football came to an end and England lost
Well, our British Action coordinator was not happy when England lost against Portugal in soccer. I asked if he had made any bet. - No - Good, you didn't lost you house then.
Well, 1st day of July and already all this pictures. I can sense that the downloading time will be pretty long at the end of the month, but I think that most of you have broad band by now.
Well, I was almost alone on deck for my night fags, all of the crew are in the mess room watching Brazil - France playing soccer. There wasn't very much to do during the evening and I tried to alleviate the boredom by looking at old pictures, but it was in vain. I asked the Skipper if he wanted to go see the soccer but he didn't want to so I went back to my cabin. Well, it's soon midnight and I have 4 hours to kill on the bridge.
+++++++++++++++
Sunday 2ndof July 2006and we were still sailing when I came on my watch at midnight. Our Doctorhad never been sailing before and I was on watch with our Brazilian Deckhand. He has been onboard several times and he knows the sails like his pockets.
I was soon down in my cabin to get me a Diet Drink and, well, my language course had been collecting dust next to my bed since we left Singapore. I decided that enough was enough and I put it in my bag, never to be seen again.
We had a force 5 - 6 blowing from the NW - NNW and we were only using 70% of the sails, but we still made 5 knots. We were hauling as• between midnight and 4 o'clock.
When I went to the galley to refill my water bottle I meet our Canadian outboard Mechanic and helooked so good, freshly shaved so I had to go and get my camera in my cabin. - You look like you are 23, I said.
When I came on my watch at 12:00 our Greek Goddess was on the bridge. She gave me her hat as a remembrance and souvenir. Strange, I have to listen to how much she hates me, that I'm crazy, she will never talk to me again, I'm a fåck up and that she will kick my as• and now I got the hat.
She got my hanky that I have used to protect my baldness from the sun. I prefer the hat, it’s beautiful with all the bright colours.
We were sailing during the afternoon and I put 18.25 hours of sailing in the noon report to Greenpeace. We had the wind coming in from Starboards side with a force 5 - 6. So that means that the crew prepared the BBQ on our port side and maybe I will go for a BBQtonight. I have not been eating lunch or dinner onboard for a long time. I think tonight is going to be the night.
I did not only run in to our outboard Mechanic during the night
She gave me her hat
Well, I don't know if it is any good idea to put my hanky in the mouth

Preparing the BBQ
Another picture from Roger Grace, the world famous Photographer
Yes, Rainbow Warrior and my diet was a great success. No meals since I joined the ship inSingapore. Easy to avoid eating on board Rainbow Warrior with all the girls. Easy to imagine what they would think if catching me eating. - Look at Porky - He just let go of himself - Isn't there any bottom in the human balloon?
Hmm, not eating since Singapore, not quite, we have a cubic ton of pasta on our morning watches. But that's another story.
So I lost weight like there was no tomorrow. But today I will join them for the BBQ and I went up on deck just before 6 o'clock and the food were ready. Our Cook and Skipper were busy at the grill and the fish and meat were sizzling on the grill. V-shaped torso or bust and I skipped the BBQ. But I had a Diet Drink, before going to my cabin where I felt asleep. This is the 2nd or 3rd time I felt asleep during the evening.

I enjoyed the rest of the evening on deck with a coffin nail in my mouth. The moon is getting bigger and bigger and the wind is decreasing so it was a nice evening. But moonshine is not good for drift nets so there are only a few days to catch the fishing boats before full moon. They can't use the drift nets neither when it's too much wind nor when its full moon.

Monday 3rdof July 2006and we were still sailing at midnight. The weather forecast was NNW 5 - 6 in the Ionian Sea. We were steering 178° with the wind coming in from our Starboard quarter. We had changed the sail at 23:30 and we changed course just before midnight so it was pretty much just to keep course for the whole watch. At 01:00 the wind changed direction and came in from Starboards beam and I changed our course a little to keep the wind coming from our Starboards quarter.
Sailing and no chance to find any drift nets due to the waves. What to do? Our Cuoco di velista suggested a Spaghetti di Barca a velista and he disappeared down to the galley.

Traditional cigar after the pasta
Well, it's a tradition by now for me to pester him with my camera every now and then when he is cooking. And why change an old tradition? I was down in the galley and I brought plates back to the bridge. Second time I went down the Spaghetti di Barca a velasta was ready. We returned to the bridge for our traditional “ Pasto di notte maniera di camping ” and we were soon all eating.
I had our Australian girl on watch because we were sailing and our Doctor had never been sailing before. Our Australian girl was pleasantly surprised by our nightly spaghetti. - Are you doing this every night? She asked. - When we have the time.
Well, the watch passed by without us finding any drift nets and at 04:00 we were relieved by the girls on the 4 - 8 watch and I was down in my cabin in a jiff.
When I came on my watch at 12:00 we sailed to the East and I was told that we were going to drop our anchor in the evening - No use searching for drift nets in this weather, our Skipper told me.

It turned out to be our Australian girl's birthday today and our Spanish Deckhand had put a box in the mess room for the crew to drop gifts in. I dropped two, but I'm not going to tell what. It was an emergency drop, I was told about the box 15 minutes before, and 15 minutes really isn't that long for coming up with an good ideafor a gift.
I woke up just in time to get a piece of the birthday cake, yes, I felt a sleep again. I suspect that it must be the smokingmaking me tired all the time. I only have one pack left and then I will give up.
Our photographer and Marine Biologist from New Zealand were going to hold a presentation over Marine Reserves the other day, but it was cancelled. They had planned to do it on one of the sails tonight, but we are arriving to the anchorage during the night. But they held the presentation in the cargo hold during the night and I got to see the end of it and our Webbie's funny picture presentation. (Yeah, the picture of me camping was exposed for the whole world to see)

They told me that the Deckhands will be on anchor watch during the night, but I told our Skipper that I'm taking my watch. I have plenty passage planning to do and now I can do it while I'm alone.
But our Spanish Deckhand was happy that she could sleep. Well, to becalled 0345 for watch every morning is not one of the top five things on your desiderata for Christmas.

At 22:54 we dropped anchor just North of the Greek village/ small town Pýlos in the Bay Órmos Pýlos and we could see the village/ small town Pýlos from the anchorage. I estimate it to be 2 minutes with our AVON to the center of the village/ small town.

Tuesday 4thof July 2006and we were anchored when I came on my watch at midnight, well, I had been on deck since 23:00 drinking Diet Drinks and smokingso it was just to step in on the bridge when it was time for watch at midnight, pretty convenient.

Well, I was offered to be free during the anchor watch. Usually they have the Deckhands on anchor watch, but I'm busy with my passage planning and I need a few hours alone. It's nice with all the people around during the days, but I can't concentrate. So I take this opportunity to kick some arse on the bridge. Well, our Doctor kept my company during the whole watch so there really wasn't much happening with the passage plans during the night. But good company are more important than the boring paper work.
But I was going to be relieved by our Lebanese Princesses at 4 o'clock. Our Webbie was sleeping in the hammock on deck and she asked me to wake her up at 03:45. But she came to the bridge at 03:45, I was busy correcting chart and I never woke her up.
Pýlos in the Bay Órmos Pýlos
I left the bridge and I slept until 13:30 when I woke up by myself. No one called me and when I came up I found out that I was on watch between 15:00 and 19:00. Our Chief Mate asked if I wanted to be on watch at midnight. - Yes, I still have work to do, I said.
Well, our Greek crew had called the authorities during the morning and we had got permission to use our AVON to go ashore. Maybe I can go ashore tonight to upload my web page. According to the people that returned from shore there is an internet cafe close by.
I would not mind a few lamb chops in plenty rosemary as well, mmm, my favourite. I can't waitto go ashore to have a meal all by lonesome, I'm hungry.
I'm in for a difficult decision, when I was down to leave my empty Diet Drink can I meet our Italian Campaigner. - ALADDIN!! I and our Video man will prepare Spaghetti Carbonara for dinner! Lamb chop or Spaghetti Carbonara, I think I will make a move for both of it. Our Italian Campaigner is very good at the Spaghetti Carbonara and I don't want to miss their Carbonara. And I don't want to miss the lamb chops with Rosemary, so I settle for both..
But we will be in Piraeus in a week and I have to look good by then. Well, I have to optimize the “ FLAT STOMACH EFFECT ” ASAP when we leave the anchorage. “FAT TO FLAT” in a week, is it possible?Well, arriving to Piraeus, it will be a V-shaped torso or a case of beer, will have the same effect on my self esteem.
Tonight German plays against Italy in the Quarter Final and our Italian Radio Operator were on thebridge asking foran Italian flag. I asked our German Engineer if he wanted a German flag and he loved the idea. I got the smallest Italian flag I could find and I took the biggest German flag I could found.
Well, there is only one or two teams worth the name, and they are both teams from Skåne, but that's anotherstory. - Hmm, pretty much any team from Skåne winning is good. Well, I gave the small Italian flag to our Italian Video man and he was more than disappointed when he saw the size of the German flag.

Our soccer supporters left us with the AVON at 3 o'clock and I was called on the radio by our Chief Mate. She told me that she would be back at 5 so I could go ashore. - Stay as long as you want! Have fun! I said. - OK, I'm back at 7, she said. According to rumours the internet cafe is open all night long and I'm in no hurry. Spaghetti Carbonara here I come!
I was down to check on our two Italian cooks and the only thing I found was a big Italian flag in the mess room and our two Couco di ancoraggio was working with their computers.
We were surprised with a heavy shower and the rain poured down like there was no tomorrow. Otherwise you try to avoid the rain, but we are not allowed to smokein the accommodation so I had to go outside for my cancer stick.
Well, as soon as I get my nicotine plaster in Piraeus I will start to kick ar•e again. It will be nice and this Marlboro man thing I got going didn't became the success that I was hoping for, but I tried and I think I deserve some credit for that.
Our Italian Campaigner came to the bridge and he asked how many people we were left onboard. We figured out that we were only 6 persons onboard, five eating Spaghetti Carbonara and one vegetarian. But the cooking pictures will be on the next upload, I will put my web page on my memory stick and I will bring it ashore tonight if and when I'm going ashore.
STAY TUNED and cykeln på köpet!
Well, as this is updated with new pictures 2014 we can have as many cooking pictures we want.

While waiting for dinner I spoke (Of course I was down to the galley every now and then to check to progress with the Carbonara) with the Greek volunteer that joined us in Reggio Di Calabrio. She spent the afternoon on the bridge. - Are there 2 soccer games today? She asked. - I don't know. I don't know anything about soccer, I said. - Ah! A MAN ( Man with a capital m & a & n) that don't know anything about soccer. That's impressive, she said.
Our two Couco di ancoraggio were busy in the galley while I kept my ears open for calls on the VHF radio. I also kept an eye on or radar just to make sure that we didn't start drifting. They called from the Galley and it was the 12 minutes’ notice for our Spaghetti Carbonara.
When I came down they were just finishing the Carbonara and our 2nd Engineer got vegetarian spaghetti. It was delicious, but I had to eat quickly. I had the Greek volunteer on radio watch on the bridge.
We were waiting for our Chief Mate to call, she called me 10 minutes before 7 and she told me that she was getting a haircut. When she is back I will leave the ship.
Our Chief Mate returned 20 past 7 and she looked fabulous in her new haircut. And she was very happy when I mentioned it to her. We were ready to leave at 19:45. I asked our Chief Mate to get away so I could get a picture of Rainbow Warrior in the sun and I got a few beautiful pictures for myShip-picture page. This delayed us for about 25 seconds and when we were done we went for the marina in Pýlos.

Pýlos was a nice town with a square next to the marina. I found a Pharmacy at the square and I bought a package of nicotine plaster. Then I went to an internet place to upload my web page. - DARN! I forgot my user name onboard.
Well, I was lucky that Surftown, my web hotel, was providing a chat service and I got my user name within a few seconds. I was lucky it was nice people working at the internet place. The staff borrowed me a computer and I could connect via their wireless network. All the computers were busy with kids playing games.
Our Greek volunteer that spent the afternoon on the bridge is a Teacher in ancient Greek language, Greek literature and history, she came in to the internet place and she found her students there playing. The children were soon leaving to go home to do their homework, at least which is what they said. And we have to believe them
I spent about 1 hour there and when I asked for the price they told me it was for free for the Greenpeace crew. I returned to the square for the pick up at 22:00 and I meet the crew there. The crew was sitting in a bar/ restaurant on the square watching the game on a big screen TV on the square. I joined them for a while before I walked down to the jetty 100 meters away to get the ride back to Rainbow Warrior and my watch at midnight.

We were back onboard at 22:30 and I could hear the Italians watching the soccer in the mess room. It sounded like there had been several hundreds of goals, but when I checked it was still 0 to 0. Yes, football, 90 minutes of nothing.

Wednesday 5thof July 2006and just after midnight Italy won the semi final against the Germans. Our Italian video man and Campaigner cheering in the mess room so I could hear it all the way to the bridge. I thought there were hundreds of them.
Our Campaigner took the big Italian flag that I gave to our Video man earlier during the day. He put it just above the pilot gate for all the returning crew (our football enthusiastic German 3rd Engineer) to see when they returned from shore. Our Italian Videographer was waiting for our football loving German supporting 3rd Engineer from Germany to return.

He was in for his first disappointment 10 minutes later, the first load of people was coming back and none of them were supporting Germany. Well, he was soon used to get disappointed. The second load did not have any German supporters either.
Our Italian Video man was waiting with his camera on deck and our German supporters arrived withour AVON on the third and last trip. Our German supporters did not look very happy, and they didn't wave the German flag any more. But what the heck, it's only soccer.
The Italians were singing the National hymn and they were dancing with the flags when finally the German supporters arrived. Our 3rd Engineer didn't look happy in his FIFA WORLD CUP - GERMANY 2006 cap. But it didn't take long before he was happy again.

When I came on my watch at 12:00 we were just about to pass the island N. Próti some 11 Nm NW of Pýlos. We had left the anchorage at 11:00 and we were just steaming towards North hoping for the weather to be better.
Our Greek/ Swedish girl had her birthday and it was the same story with the box in the mess room. But now the box was changed for a bag decorated by our Webbie from Lebanon. Well, I'm running out of ideas for birthday gifts so I did the same as last time and I but a pair of (new) socks in the bag. Why change a winning concept? - Help! I'm running out of socks! But the best part is, are you sitting down? Our Greek/ Swedish girl will think that our Australian girl didn't liked her socks and now she sees her chance to get rid of them by putting them in the bag. - DARN! Now I just gave away what I gave to our Australian girl on her birth day.
Well, the wind increased during the afternoon and we had a force 6 blowing from NNW and I think they gave up the idea of finding any drift nets.
I went straight to bed at 4 o'clock and I missed the birthday cake. Well, arriving in Piraeus in a few days and I have to look good, remember? It must be my smokingmaking me tired all the time, and for sure, I have not been kicking any arse with the nicotine plaster I bought in Pýlos. But the arse kickin’ is soon to start!
At 20:30 we dropped our anchor at Órmos Zákynthos. Órmos means bay in Greek. We were anchored just outside the port of Zákynthos and we could see all the ferries coming and going.
- Lo and behold! We had internet connection and I could upload my web page.
