Aladdin's adventure at the Father's Day in Bangkok

Friday 5 th of December 2014 and it is almost 2 weeks since I came back home from Africa.Training 6 days per week and Thai school 4 days per week. I might join my friend forevening classes in Thai at Time Square two times per week.

I miss Africa, well, I miss the safaris and the excitements with all the animals and I think about the new born impala, what is she/ he doing now? Still alive? I hopeYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stthe cute impala is still alive. But what if an even cuter baby lion have eaten the cute impala? Well, I hope the cute baby lion have eaten another impala and not MY impala!

My Indian Tiger Safari seems to go down the drain, the tour Guide told me that it was better to go in January and it looks to be fully booked during the holiday in December.

I'm looking for a tour of North of Thailand and I got a special Christmas offer from Made inMade in Africa - Botswana Christmas SpecialAfrica, 7 nights in Botswana with Desert & Delta Safaris. And when Desert & Delta Safaris arrange the safari it is a guarantee for the safari to be good.

And 2850 US for 7 nights sounds good. And it was 3250 US if I wanted a private car, of course this price is in a shared car and room. But I got it confirmed, that this was the price for me going alone, so this is a very good price.

Bangkok Post - Thai holiday nightmare

I spent 19 nights in Africa and when I came back there was a lot of stories to be read about the harassments of tourists along the Sukhumvit Road. We have known about the cigarette Police for a long time, and they are still busy. But now I'm reading reports about the Police harassing tourists searching their pockets and luggage. Two links to different pages if you care to read more about it:

Well, the post was up for one day. But 2 or 3 days later the video reappeared at Coconuts Bangkok and their article about Surge of reported harassment suggests police targeting tourists, expats. And of course, you can read the full article including the video by clicking HERE But honestly, the last 3 days walking down Sukhumvit, I cover the stretch between Soi 11 and 23 when walking back home from school, and there have been no sights of any Cigarette Police or ordinary Polices during the last 3 days. Maybe because of all the articles in different newspapers and online articles?

December 5

is an important day in the Thai almanac because this is the day the country celebrates the birthday of King Bhumibol Adulyadej(Rama IX),the monarch of Thailand. It is also regarded as a National Day. On another count, it is proclaimed National Father’s Day.
handy. Well, anyway, I will take the chance and move down to the Ratchadamnoen Road.

The King's birthday is one of the most important holidays, if not the most important holiday in Thailand. And the festivities are centred around Bangkok‘s Ratchadamnoen Road from DemocracyAladdin's adventure in Bangkok/ Funky TownMonument to the Grand Palace. A range of ceremonies take place throughout the day and into the evening at prominent Bangkok temples like Wat Phra Kaew, Wat Pho and Wat Saket, and cultural performances are held at Sanam Luang near the Palace. So this might turn out to be fun.

I have had time for some improvements in my condo since I came back home from Africa. They were here to change my heat detectors yesterday. 1 of them were found broken and they wanted to change one for 400 Baht. I told them to change all of them as the old ones don't look so good, 20 years old and theyAladdin's adventure in Bangkok/ Funky Townare for sure not white anymore.

I ordered new shelves for my laundry room. One of the wood shelf have felt down and I will rip out all the wooden shelves and put up glass shelves instead. Glass is on order and this willYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.sthopefully be ready next Friday.

I have bought new LED lights that I will try. There have been much about LED lights in the newspapers and radio lately. I have never seen LED lights before and I was seriously doubting thatHomePro in BangkokI would be able to find them in Bangkok. And I have 2 big boxes of the “LOW ENERGY” light bulbs at home, I bought them at HomePro not long ago.

But I was out walking and I passed HomePro and I went inside to see if they had LED lights. And yes, this must have been the latest to hit the market. There was a tower of LED lights at theSylvania LED lightentrance and I bought 10 bulbs, I will start to try them out in the kitchen.

So why did I decide to buy LED lights, of course, they use less power than the light bulb and the LOW ENERGY lights. One of the LED lights cost me 205 Baht, hmm, or was it 250 Baht?

So they are the double price comparing to the “LOW ENERGY” lights. And they are about 1 million more than the good ol' lightbulb. Even if I have the light on for years I won't save any money on the electricity. But imagine when we change all the light bulbs in the world! We will be able to close down several of our coal power plants.

And the old light bulb, living in Bangkok and I had to change light bulbs all the time. There was a period when I didn't do anything else, running around changing my lights bulb. They introduced the “LOW ENERGY” lights and I came up with an idea. And this wasYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stactually one of the clever ideas. I decided to change all my old light bulbs for the “LOW ENERGY” lights.

And one of the things I heard about the LED is that they have an unbelievable long life. The “LOW ENERGY” lights have a pretty long life as well, but I change them every now and then.Aladdin's adventure in Bangkok/ Funky TownBut next time I will change for a LED. Of course, now when I have the LED there will never be any light that needs to be changed.

OK, my friend will come over at 11 for 10 rounds of exercise, I need to exercise away the Korean food we had at Central Rama 9 yesterday. Then I will take off to Sanam Luang to celebrate the King of Thailand.

My friend arrived around 11 and we got started with our boxing exercise, 10 rounds and we had ashower before we took off towards Sanam Luang to meet my friend's friend. He is a 2 time World Champion in Muay Thai and we will meet at the boxing ring in Sanam Luang.

It was not easy to find any parking space for the car and we had to drive around for a bit. We found a spot behind one of the toilet buses. There was one of those road railing between the bus and the vehicle behind the bus. Well, as we're in Thailand stuff like this is no problems, my friend moved the road railing and we parked the car. And the parking place was just next to the entrance to Sanam Luang. We walked towards the gate and we were soon in Sanam Luang.

We find the boxing ring and they let us inside the roped-off area

We met my friend's friend and he let us in behind the fence around the boxing ring. My friend knew several of the people around the ring and I went to a big open spot. And it was very nice toAladdin's adventure celebrating the King's Birthday and Father's Day at Sanam Luang and Ratchadamnoen Road in Bangkokcome out from the crowd. The boxing ring was full of people and a Thai flag and an Indonesian flag.

TV and plenty people in suit so I expected a HIGH PROFILE fight. The Thai fighter held up a belt and the commentator was screaming BLAH BLAH BLA Asia champion and the crowd was screaming. The Indonesian fighter looked very cool and I expected some are kicking as soon as the fight would start.

But there were interviews and of course, the Thai styled adds, placards with company names theyAladdin's adventure celebrating the King's Birthday and Father's Day at Sanam Luang and Ratchadamnoen Road in Bangkokheld up in front of the cameras while telling how much the company would give the winning fighter. The Indonesian VS Thai was the first fight and there were 2 Thai VS Philippines following the first fight.

There was a grandstand with guests of honour on one side of the ring.

I was so happy when the Suites started to leave the ring and the fight could start. First round and they were only,Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stwell, they started slow. Round 2 and it was getting embarrassing, the Indonesian fighter, no, the IndonesianYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stguy had never been training nay boxing. I doubt that he had ever even hit a punch bag.

It was a farce, the guy were swinging is arms making big holes in the air and he is up in the ring. This was obviously a set up. The Thai fighter was a real boxer but the Indonesian guy was in the ring just to loose. And they could at least have brought a guy that had some basic knowledge on how to jab and to throw a punch.

And the dead give-away, there were no people betting on the match. Of course, the Thai guy won and the crowd was cheering. I told my friend that this was pathetic and he agreed.
- You and me can see but the crowd don't know, he said.
- What an embarrassment!

My friend told me that they arranged fights like this to attract sponsors and interest for a fighter. Well, would have been embarrassing to win like this. Anyway, we left to look for aAladdin's adventure celebrating the King's Birthday and Father's Day at Sanam Luang and Ratchadamnoen Road in Bangkokplace to eat. We left Sanam Luang and we walked towards a place my friend knew on the Ratchadamnoen Road, next to the Democracy Monument. A Thai Restaurant called Methavalai Sorndaeng.

I had told my friend that we could go to Khaosan Road to eat, or the Royal Hotel. My friend had suggested the Methavalai Sorndaeng and I asked if they had AC. They had AC so we went there, I wanted to walk but my friend stopped a TUK TUK and we were soon on the way.

I have two favourite Thai Restaurants in Bangkok, Klingklao on Sukhumvit Soi 22 and Baan Khanita on Sukhumvit Soi 23. The Methavalai Sorndaeng on Ratchadamnoen Road will make it in on my TOP 3 Thai Restaurants. But it didn't start good.

We stepped inside and I was about to take a step back out again when I discovered a Chines styled
restaurant. The big tables for 10 persons with a turn table on top of the table. And when we got the menu: A va fan e detta?

But we were hungry and we ordered the food and it turned out to be one of my best Thai meals ever. The chicken wrapped in the green leaf was one of the best chicken I have ever had. I ordered Pad Thai, I have never been eating Pad Thai before. I asked for them to add curry powder to the Pad Thai and the Waiter and my friend protested. I continued to ask for the curry and the Waiter went to the Kitchen to see if they could add curry.

He was soon back at the table and it was no problem to add curry. The food came and it was excellent, and the Pad Thai “curry special” was very good. Yes, we had a god time at the restaurant, the food was excellent and this place will make it in to my TOP 3 favourite Thai Restaurants in Bangkok. If I ever manage to success with my diet I might come back for another meal. But from now on, NO MORE restaurants until I have managed to obtain my V-shaped torso.

We were lucky and we found a taxi and we were soon back at the boxing ring. Two kids in the ring and we left the boxing behind. People started to come to the park and it was too much people. And the longAladdin's adventure celebrating the King's Birthday and Father's Day at Sanam Luang and Ratchadamnoen Road in Bangkokqueues with people lining up for free food didn't made it any better. And the garbage and the smell, take me out of here!

We walked through the crowd until we came to an area where there wasn't so much people, close to where we had entered Sanam Luang.

It was so nice to come out from the crowd. This area was surrounded by exhibition tents and people were sitting on the grass. My friend told me that we would light candles at 7 o'clock, and there would be a big firework at 7. Well, as this is the first time for me, we canAladdin's adventure celebrating the King's Birthday and Father's Day at Sanam Luang and Ratchadamnoen Road in Bangkokas well wait for 2 hours. It was 5 o'clock and I was about to go back home.

Here was so much people it was impossible to move around, and I would love to walk around having a look. And I wanted to wait until it was dark so I could get some pictures of the lights at Ratchadamnoen Road. We went to check my friend's car and his car was blocked by trucks so noAladdin's adventure celebrating the King's Birthday and Father's Day at Sanam Luang and Ratchadamnoen Road in Bangkokway he could leave. At least not with his car.

Yes, how to kill 2 hours? We spotted an ice cream vendorAladdin's adventure celebrating the King's Birthday and Father's Day at Sanam Luang and Ratchadamnoen Road in Bangkokand we walked over to the girl.

We bought two ice creams and we were enjoying the ice cream while joking with the girl.

She prepared herself to continue down the road and I asked her for two more ice creams. The girl left and we started to walk back towards the gate while eating ice cream.

There were plenty people wanting to buy ice cream from the other side of the fence so she was buys, good luck for her and I hope she make good money.

We were soon back in Sanam Luang and now we only had “almost” two hours to wait until it was timeAladdin's adventure celebrating the King's Birthday and Father's Day at Sanam Luang and Ratchadamnoen Road in Bangkokto light the candle and the fire work.

I was thirsty after having eaten the ice cream and my friend went to buy water, we should meet back here under the big yellow flag. I stayed behind and I was starting to get tired in my legs, but no signs of any place to sit down to relax.

Suddenly there were a marching band coming in through the gate, and I went to have a look. ThereAladdin's adventure celebrating the King's Birthday and Father's Day at Sanam Luang and Ratchadamnoen Road in Bangkokwere a never ending line of marching bands coming in through the gates. The bands were mixed with soldiers marching and at the end there were different universities marching along. All these people came in to the park.

And it was the same at the gate on the opposite side of Sanam Luang. I went to the other side of the park trying to get out on the street where there was less people. There were marching bands for as long as I could see, must be thousands of people marching in to Sanam Luang

I was on Ratchadamnoen Nai Road watching the marching bands marching in to Sanam Luang and it was very nice. I was in the front row and not much people around as most of the people were inAladdin's adventure celebrating the King's Birthday and Father's Day at Sanam Luang and Ratchadamnoen Road in BangkokSanam Luang behind me on the other side of Ratchadamnoen Nai Road. And I spotted a street vendor selling water on the other side of the road, but all the marching bands were between me and the water. And I was very thirsty so I really needed water.

I decided to wait until the marching bands had passed and then I would cross the street to buy some water. The marching bands passed and now there were a few thousand university students marching by.

I made a run for it and I was drinking cold water when the last people was marching by. I finished the water and I walked back to Sanam Luang. It was around 6 o'clock and many people wereAladdin's adventure celebrating the King's Birthday and Father's Day at Sanam Luang and Ratchadamnoen Road in Bangkokleaving, nice, but what about the fire work and lightning the candles? Why are the people leaving?

My friend called and he asked where I was and I told him that I was close to the flag. We passed the place with the fire work and we learned that the fire work and the lightening of the candles would not start untilAladdin's adventure celebrating the King's Birthday and Father's Day at Sanam Luang and Ratchadamnoen Road in Bangkok19:39. That gave us one hour to go, but we were lucky, we found a place to sit down and we were soon talking with two girls. Well, a mother and her daughter.

We had a good time with them and it was nice to sit down joking with them and the time passed quickly. We had a few people next to us preparing their cameras and tri pods so they could take pictures of the fireworks. Suddenly every one stood up and they started to light up their candles. My friend and I joined them with our candles burning.

The fireworks at Sanam Luang came to an end and they started to send up fireworks from theNorth side of the Sanam Luang. There was no wind at all and the fireworks was soon covered in smoke.

The fireworks in Sanam Luang didn't reach the same heights, but still someproblem with the smoke. But now the fireworks was soon covered in smoke, would have been nice with a wee bit of wind. And the fireworks they sent up North of Sanam Luang was much bigger than the fireworks in the park.

And we could not see the fire work going up, just explosions in the sky and it was beautiful, but the smoke was terrible. And it was soon starting to fall down ashes on us. At first I thought it was mosquitos or insects attracted by all the yellow shirts, but it was ash from the fire work.

I had expected to cars to be banned from the roads around Sanam Luang. How many people coming out from Sanam Luang, 100,000? And the side walk was full of street vendors. So I had to cross the west bound lane and I joined a steady stream of people walking East in the East bound traffic lane. I reached the Democracy Monument and I was taking picture using the flash and long shutter time. And as always (At least when I remember it) I turn my baseball cap to avoid closing the flash with the cap peak. Walking over Rop Krung

I passed the Democracy Monument and I walked over Rop Krung and I continued down Nakhon Sawan, I crossed the Canal and I continued until Phitsanulok Road. I turned right and I walked towards Phetchaburi. I crossed the railroads and I walked under the elevated high way. I was alone when I left the Canal behind on Nakhon Sawan, but there were plenty people joining from Lan Luang when I was walking down Phetchaburi.

We crossed the walk over and one girl pointed at the ladder going down to the lane going towardsSverigedemokraternaSukhumvit. Well, there are thousands of people looking for a taxi going in that direction and I continued walking TOWARDS the traffic going back to Ratchadamnoen. They thought I was crazy, well, the chance are exact 0 (ZERO) to find a taxi going in the direction towards Sukhumvit Road Soi 23.

And I was lucky, there was a taxi outside 7 Eleven and he brought me back home. And it was 11 when I was back home and I had been walking for the full day, good for my diet.

I was really tired when I was back home, I checked the latest news about the snap election in Sweden. Set to 22nd Of March 2015 and I need to find out when I can get the ballot papers.

The Indian safari, so far nothing but a disappointment, the company want me to come work and I told them that I will tell them on Monday. So if I don't have any news about my Indian Tiger safaris on Monday I will tell Sverigedemokraterna TV Maersk that I'm available. And that means that I have concerns about my ballot papers.

Sweden's government lost a budget vote and it looks like they will hold a snap election on the 22nd of March 2015 and I really want to take my responsibility and vote.
