Thursday 24 th of July 2025 and my Guide was at my room several times to tell me that it was time to leave. Our scheduled departure time was at 8 o'clock, but I was sick. It was 9 o'clock before I managed to get myself to the car.

We left Saint Louis and Hotel Diamarek behind. We stopped to pick up another Guide at the outskirts of Saint Louis. He will join us to Guide us while in the north.

He get in to the car and I open my door to throw up. I felt bad, really bad and we were soon stopping again so I could throw up. I felt asleep and I woke up just in time to see the Blue-cheeked Bee-eater nest site.

There was a big site with nests and many Blue-cheeked Bee-eaters with nests next to the road.

Podor

Podor

is the northernmost town in Senegal, lying on Morfil Island between the Sénégal River and Doué River on the border with Mauritania. It was the location of the ancient state Takrur.

It is home to a ruined French colonial fort, built in 1854 as a centre for gold trading, and is the birthplace of fashion designer Oumou Sy, as well as musicians Baaba Maal and Mansour Seck.

At the 2013 census the population of the town was 11,608. According to the 2023 census, it had grown to 12,512. It is 99% Muslim.

We leave the nest site continuing towards Podor and I fall asleep again. I wake up when we reach Podor and I find the town to be very beautiful. We will stay at La cour du fleuve at the Senegal River facing the river and Mauritania across the river.

La cour du fleuve is a beautiful hotel and the courtyard is full of birds. We had our lunch, that we had ordered by phone and as I felt better after the throw up and sleep I was hungry.

I had ordered Spanish Omelette and bread and it tasted very good. We will go look for birds at 15 thirty so I went to my room for a quick power nap.

I really liked my room, especially the bathroom. I have not seen a nice bathroom since I arrived to Senegal. But now I was looking forward to a shower.

We will visit the eBird hotspot: Diatar track and I start my eBird app at 15:51 after having left the paved road. We start to drive along a dirt road and we keep our eyes out for birds.

It was really nice to drive around the area, of course, I want to see birds. But even if I do not see any birds, I get to see a lot of different habitats around the world.
