We were going to drive to the Guide's farm. He is managing the Jabiru Safari Lodge and the Mareeba Tropical Savanna and Wetland Reserve. He have a big farm just next to the Mareeba Tropical Savanna and Wetland Reserve and we're going there to check out parrots.
We saw a Red winged parrot in the forest the other day and he told us that there were plenty parrots at his farm. We drove slowly and we spotted several birds on the way. A Forrest Kingfisher, White-bellied cuckooshrike and several other birds.
I spotted a bird in a tree 200 meters away. I could only see a long tail and some red in it. Otherwise it was not possible to see any colours as the bird was in the shadow. The bird flewaway and it looked to be a Red-rumped Parrot. Actually two of them.
We saw a few more of the Forrest Kingfisher when we drove over a field towards his farm house. And when I came out in his garden there were plenty of the Red-winged Parrot and the Rainbow lorikeet.
There was also a Great bowerbird but I never got any picture before the bird disappeared. But my Guide showed me his nest. The Great
Bower
noun
a pleasant shady place under trees or climbing plants in a garden or wood.
• poetic/literary a summer house or country cottage.
• poetic/literary a lady's private room or bedroom.
bowerbird collect colourful things to decorate the nest with to impress the female. And if he is lucky she will move in.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:The bower is a twin-walled avenue-type bower approximately 1 metre long and 45 cm high. It is typically located under a shrub or leafy branch. The ends of the bower are scattered with white and green objects - stones, bones, shells and leaves and small man-made objects such as plastic and bottle caps. Within the bower itself is sometimes placed clear glass.
Uniquely among bowerbirds, groups of young males will attend a single bower concurrently, "practising" their bower-building skills prior to establishing their own bower for mating purposes.

We were back at Jabiru Safari Lodge and I packed my bag before going down to the coffee shop/ visitor centre. My driver had arrived and he was going to have a cup of coffee before we left. SoI took the opportunity to buya few cookies for my new friends that I passed on the way.
They were happy to see me and they had soon finished all the cookies. When I was back at the coffee shop the driver had finished his coffee and I had my tea standing up.
It had been a good morning and I had seen 3 different kinds of parrots. Well, thefirst one in the tree was too far away for being counted.
But I got a real close up look at the Red winger parrot that we had seen in the forest on our first birding drive. Well, I finished my tea and I paid my bill. It was time to leave for Cairns and we just need to clickHEREto find out how that adventure turns out.
