Thursday 14thof September 2017and they called me at 5 thirty. My alarm went off a few minutes later. The plan is to go bird watching at Tanjung Aru Beach/ Prince Philip Park today. And when I'm back from Tabin Wildlife Reserve I will go to Kota Kinabalu City Bird Sanctuary or KKCBS. I had a bottle of orange juice that I had bought at the IMAGO Shopping Mall
I really liked the hotel so I got a wee bit disappointed with the breakfast. But I had some cereals and I went out to take a taxi to Tanjung Aru Beach/ Prince Philip Park. It would cost 25 ringgits to go from Ming Garden Hotel and Residences to the park. Took about 10 minutes to get to the park. We drove up on the parking lot and I saw two bird watchers coming out from the park.
Breakfast
Taxi outside the hotel
I got out of the car and I asked them if they had seen any exciting birds. I asked about the Blue-naped Parrot and he showed me one sitting in the tree on the parking lot. He also pointed to some bushes where there was Munias. I thought it was the Dusky Munia, endemic to Borneo. But it turned out to be the Chestnut Munia.
So I had seen two new birds just minutes after getting out of the taxi. I was not very happy with the pictures, but this is something I'm used to by now. There were also two Asian Glossy Starlings sitting on a lamp post. I entered the park and I was soon running in to yet another Asian Glossy Starling. I walked in to the park and it was not a well maintained park even though I saw some people collecting garbage in the park.

I walked through the park, the park was kind of, well it was not what I would have called a park. But there were a lot of birds. I didn't get many pictures, but I was happy that I got a picture of the Oriental Dollarbird. The Blue-naped Parrot, I saw many of them, and they could be heard everywhere. But it was very hard to get any pictures.
I walked through the park and I walked through an abandoned traffic school for children. The traffic school was at the south end of the park. If you are a DARE DEVIL you can continue through the bushes. I saw a Collared Kingfisher but the light was not any good so no good picture.
I walked back towards the parking lot where the taxi will pick me up at 10 o'clock. I saw the Oriental Dollarbirds and several Blue-naped Parrots flying around. I saw an Oriental Pied Hornbill land in a tree at the beach and I went down to see if I could get some pictures. After a few minutes a second Oriental Pied Hornbill landed in the same tree. And I was surprised, I managed to get a few good pictures as the Hornbill couldn't care less about me standing under the tree taking pictures.

I left the hornbills and I spotted a bird I recognised from the internet when I was searching about bird watching at Tanjung Aru Beach/ Prince Philip Park in Kota Kinabalu. The black and white Pied Triller. Not any pictures I'm very happy about, but they are OK to use.
I could hear a Collared Kingfisher when I was back at the pond. The Kingfisher was in a tree diving down to the pond every now and then. I was sitting in a shed looking out for Munias when I spotted the Collared Kingfisher. I never saw any Munias, but a couple of Eurasian Tree Sparrows was busy building a nest in the shed. They were collecting building material around the shed.
I left the park and I went out on the parking lot to see if I could see any Munias or any Blue-naped Parrots in the trees. And I was thirsty as it was very hot.

I saw a lot of birds sitting together in the top of a tree and I tried to get a good picture, but I failed. I don't know what bird it was, but it looked like some kind of swallows.
It was really hot already at 9 o'clock and the birds was hiding. But thank God that I managed to find water at the other end of the parking lot. I never saw any birds down there, but several lizards when I was walking back enjoying my water.
Still some 10 to 20 minutes to kill before the taxi will come and I went back in to the park. Some Chestnut Munia and Eurasian Tree Sparrow hiding in the shadows. But none of them wanted to be on photo. I went back to the parking lot and I saw my taxi arriving.

I had asked the driver id he knew any vape shop when we drove to Tanjung Aru Beach/ Prince Philip Park this morning. He told me that we would go look when we drove back to the hotel. We left the park behind looking for new adventures.
Of course, I made a map for you to use when you come for bird watching in Kota Kinabalu, hope you can find some use for it. Anyway, I'm off to look for e-juice before MASwings Flight MH3018 to Lahad Datu in the afternoon. ClickHEREto find out how that turned out.
