and I will meet my Guide from Bird Safari Sweden in Skillberg, Fläckebo at 8 thirty. I leave my cottage at 8 o'clock and I drive slowly as the roads are covered with ice and snow. I see 3 deer crossing the road and I stop to try to get a few pictures.
Looked to be one mama and two babies from last summer.

We will start by looking for the Spotted Nutcracker. I meet my Guide on a forest road and we walk to the area. We heard the White-tailed Eagle when we walked towards the bird area. But we never spotted the eagle.
It was about 150 meters to walk from the car and it was not so easy to walk in the snow. And I was very lucky that I bought new winter shoes in Avesta last Sunday. My trekking shoes would have kill me. They are good for India but here, no way!
There was a lot of Great Spotted Woodpeckers and I counted to 5 and there was most likely more. I don't know if they were fighting or if the breeding season is about to start.

Woodpecker and it looks like they have started to flirt to start having eggs as I think this is a call. The woodpeckers chased each other and it looked more like love than fight

Of course, we see a lot of Great Tits and Blue Tits and there is also one Coal Tit. I never spotted the Coal Tit but I managed to get a sound recording. I only saw two Nutcrackers and I only managed to get pictures of one of them.
Car is covered with snow when we are back at the cars
It was too cold and we decided to leave and we will drive for about 10 meters to the Northern Hawk-owl area. It was very nice to come back to the car and to start the heating.
Of course, take a while for the engine to get warm, but when the engine started to deliver heat in to the car it was very nice.
I chatted with the Guide while warming myself and we made plans for the upcoming days. I will spend tomorrow in the eagle hide and this is something I look forward to. We left the parking and we started to drive south towards the Northern Hawk-owl area.
We stop on the way to get pictures of a fox next to the road.

We spotted one Golden Eagle but we never saw the owl, but now I know where it is and I will come back here when we have sunshine. We went to look for a White-throated Dipper. I could see the bird tracks on the ice but no sign of the bird. I will be back when the sun is back.
I returned to my cottage and I was happy with the day. And tomorrow morning we will meet at 05:45 to go to the eagle hide. Click HERE
