Monday 2 ^nd of May 2022 and I have my breakfast at 7, cheese and avocado. We leave for Tulcea marina and we arrive at 8 o'clock. We had a stop at the ATM and a pharmacy. The Pharmacy did not have any lancet pens so was a wee bit disappointed. The owner of Verada Tour Guest House dropped me in the marina and he will have a look for lancets.

Need the lancets to get blood for my blood sugar tests. I took my seat in the boat and we took off towards the eBird hotspot: Danube Delta--Canalul Mila 36. It is a few minutes in full speed that means that it is cold. Getting in the Mila 36 channel and I can take of my jacket as we slow down.

Todays track at Canalul Mila 36

I turn of my eBird app at 08:44 when we leave Mila 36 and I restart the app at 08:46 and I chose eBird hotspot: Danube Delta--Tulcea. We will stay on the very narrow channel going to Canalul Gârla Sireașa. This channel is famous for all the Common Kingfishers and this is where I have seen most kingfishers in the delta.

Plenty pictures but they all went straight to the garbage bin.

Todays track at Danube Delta--Tulcea

Turning off the app at 09:46 when we come out on the Canalul Gârla Sireașa and I restarted the app at 09:46. We had 7 Glossy Ibises next to the channel but they take off before I can get any pictures.

We stop the motor and we are “sailing” down the channel and there is plenty birds. My Guide told me that the channel is blocked about 5 km down so no boats are coming here. We are

Just took pictures of a White-tailed Eagle soaring in the sky so the camera was set to over exposure.
I spotted the Smew in front of the boat and I took pictures without thinking about the over exposure.

Poor pictures but the bird have not been reported before so I keep the picture for ID purpose only

We are about to leave Canalul Garla Sireasa and we had a giant eagle just next to the boat. I never got my camera ready and I just got pictures from behind. But I was happy as we had seen a lot of birds here.

And again, one woodpecker flew over the boat but I could not ID the bird.

Todays track on Canalul Gârla Sireașa

We go to check out the Great Cormorant colony at Lacul cu Cotete. The same place we went the first day and we spotted a White-tailed Eagle in one of the tree tops. The Great Cormorants have babies and there are also Little Egrets, Night Herons, Spoonbills and even a Rook nest in the trees. So it was very interesting to watch the birds.

Todays track at Lacul cu Cotete

We drove around the delta for a while, I started the eBird app a couple of times, but no birds. I decided to go back to Tulcea and give the lancets another try. I wanted to see if I could find a restaurant, and it must be a good restaurant.

I asked the driver to take me to the biggest pharmacy in town and I managed t get lancets and a pen. The taxi dropped me at Delta Hotel and I will call the Driver when I am ready. Delta Hotel, it was like stepping in to an old East Europe hotel in the 80's before the fall of the Berlin Wall.

No food when I came back to Verada Tour Guest House in Somova as I was full. I prepared my luggage and we will leave for Bucharest at 8 o'clock tomorrow morning. I expevt to check in at Radisson Blu Sobieski Hotel in Warsaw tomorrow afternoon and there might be time for some bird watching. Click HERE to find out how it turns out.
