“Aladdin's adventure on board Greenpeace's Rainbow Warrior was updated with new and bigger pictures during March '14 while on board Roy Maersk”
I also update with a few names I found on the internet while looking for information about the Mediterranean Tour 2006.
I usually never put names on my web page, but these names were all over the internet so why not?

Greenpeace's Rainbow Warrior defending our Mediterranean 2006

Tuesday 11 th of July 2006 and the pilot left us at 00:15. We kept a speed of 4,5 knots to be alongside at 0800. We hadHands in the pocketour Italian Campaigner on the bridge for the last time and he enjoyed himself with my look out and our Assistant Cook. She usually spends a few hours on the bridge during the night.

Last night and I looked between my finger when the “ Hands in the pocket area ” was disrespected, well, his last night on board and I looked the other way.

We passed through a busy area of the approaches to Piraeus, the port of Athens during my night watch and time was very quick even though we were sad that our Italian friend were going to leaveGreenpeace's Rainbow Warrior defending our Mediterranean 2006us. He will be missed.

I went to bed at 04:00 but I could not sleep. I had my earplugs but I could still hear my “ Guest ” snoring. Finally after a few hours of rolling around between the sheets I finally fell asleep and I woke up at 11:30. My guest had left and I was alone again, very nice.

When I had sent my noon report I went for lunch. It was our Italian Video man andYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stInterpreter/ Deckhand from Sicily that was cooking the lunch. Spaghetti Carbonara and I had a second portion (A very small). Our Italian Campaigner was waiting for his TAXI but he had time for aGreenpeace's Rainbow Warrior defending our Mediterranean 2006last lunch on board.

Our Italian friend is from Sicily, the home of Spaghetti Carbonara so he knows how to appreciate it. And our Italian volunteer, the Deckhand/ Interpreter is also from Sicily. He is on board to interpret as we expected most of the fishermen to use driftnets to come from Sicily.
Greenpeace's Rainbow Warrior in Piraeus/ Athens - Defending our Mediterranean 2006
Well, anyway, he knows how to make the Spaghetti Carbonara and we're looking forward to the lunch.

I was chocked when he was hugging my look out in theHands in the pocketopen. It is Ok in the dark on the bridge between midnight and 4 o'clock. But it was checking in the day light.
Obviously, the respect for the “ Hands in the pocket area ” are long gone.

Time for our friend to leave and I went with him to the jetty. The time says 13:16 on the picture of the TAXI arriving, so it must have been around that time, an hour plus or minus. I was with him on the jetty saying bye bye. Well, it was not nice to see him go, we had had a very good time onboard since we left Genoa. Well, good people coming and good people are leaving, the life of a sailor.

When the TAXI left I walked to a KIOSK a few minutes away. I bought a Diet Drink and a pack of fags.SmokingWe were staying in the middle of a big yacht harbour and we were close to bars and clubs.

One of the guys from the local Greenpeace office told me that this was the old port of Athens.
- It has been in use for some 3000 years, he said.

Well, 1000 years ago the VikingsVikingwere travelling the world and 3000 years ago Sweden were still covered by the ICE. I walked around drinking my Diet Drink while enjoying the views. I took a few pictures and I can't help it, still trying to impress people with the poor quality of the pictures so off to internet they go for you to see. Surprised?

Across the parking space we have a night club/ restaurant, a big one. They will throw the Greenpeace party there tomorrow. Am I lucky or not? Tomorrow night I'm on duty and the GreekYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stGreenpeacers and our crew will never have to see me sleeping on the floor. And they will never have to see me making a titYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stout of myself.I think they have had enough of that kind of drama for a life time.

I will go to Athens all by lonesome tonight and the people I will meet there will never see me again,Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stand I will stay at Marriott during the night so the crew will never have to be exposed to me coming back on board drunk.

Well, I'm out of here. Our supply is coming and then I'm off to see the Akropoppolos. I will notGreenpeace's Rainbow Warrior in Piraeus/ Athens - Defending our Mediterranean 2006waste any time at the darn Akropopolos but I will ask the TAXI driver to slow down while passing so I can take a picture or two. Back on board and I ran in to our Australian Deckhand, they had obviously spent time on the internet.
- We know where the socks came from! Our Australian girl told me.
- What??!!
- We read your BLOG on Greenpeace's web page.
- I have written fåck all on Greenpeace's web page, I said.

Well, now I can't give any socks for the next birthday. Well, maybe I will go for the used ones. MY BLOG !!?? I have not writing any blog on Greenpeace's web page. I checked out the blog and it was our Webbie. She had been nagging on me to write something but I refused. Obviously she had cut and paste from www.aladdin.st and posted it on Greenpeace's web page. I saved the blog and you can click the link to read it. All other links to Greenpeace's web page from 2006 are obviously disappeared so I' lucky that I saved MY blog.

Acropopolus, this is the thing to see when in Athens and yes, my “going alone” plan went South. I left the ship at 17:30 something together with our Assistant Cook, Italian Interpreter/ DeckhandGreenpeace's Rainbow Warrior in Piraeus/ Athens - Defending our Mediterranean 2006and our two Photographers from Italy and New Zealand. Now I have to be careful with the beers in Athens avoiding to make a tit out of myself.

We had to take 2 Taxis and they delivered us at the Acropololus with only a few seconds between us. We started with buying some refreshments and I thought the Diet Drinks were a little strange here in Greece. And later (too late) I found out that I had a terrible headache when I woke up.

Do you think there were any tourists looking at the Acrepopilus? There were plenty people up there and with a 12 Scooby Doo Dollar entrance fee they make millions.

Well, a quick stop at a souvenir

We spent some 30 minutes walking around taking pictures of the place and, well, I don't want to say that I got fed up, but now I had seen it and Athens were lying in front of our feet, and that'sGreenpeace's Rainbow Warrior in Piraeus/ Athens - Defending our Mediterranean 2006literally. There was a very nice view over Athens from Acropopulus.

When we had got all the pictures we wanted it was time to leave, well, they closed the place at 19:00 and we just managed to leave before they kicked us out of there. And even if it only was a small place, with only one exit we managed to lose track of each other. First I was waiting with our Photographer from New Zealand for the Italians and then I was waiting with the Italians for our Photographer from New Zealand.

Well, let's leave the Acropopilus behind and let's have fun. Now we have seen it and I will never mention it again. Not for a while anyway, maybe next time I'm back in Athens I will mention that I didn't go to see the darn Acropopolos.

We walked down to where the TAXI had dropped us when we arrived, of course we did a pit stop on the way. I noticed that the time between the pit stops got shorter and shorter while the evening passed by.
- The Greek Diet Drinks are really strange. Makes you want to drink more and more.

Our Italian Video man needed an adaptor for his Apple computer and we needed to find the yellow pages so we could look up a shop. We asked in a souvenir shop and they told us to go to someGreenpeace's Rainbow Warrior in Piraeus/ Athens - Defending our Mediterranean 2006square somewhere to find the computer shop. We started to walk down hills from Apopolis and we had been on the way for a few minutes when I needed to stop for maintenance.Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st

When we left the kiosk behind we had forgot the name of this Scooby Doo square with all the computer shops. We passed one computer shop on the way to the big street and they didn't have what we were looking for. Well, never mind, we had soon forgotten all about the computer.

We were hungry and we stopped 2 Taxis when we were down from the hill where Akropolis was located. We had walked for an eternity when we finally found the taxis and we asked for a restaurant. They took us all the way back up the hill before we could stop them. We just came from there and nothing is happening around there.
- HEY HEY! We don't want to go back to Scoobyville.

Our drivers had a deliberation in the middle of the road while the other road-user where honkingGreenpeace's Rainbow Warrior in Piraeus/ Athens - Defending our Mediterranean 2006their horns and screaming. I thought I was back in India for a while with all the honking.
- You want restaurant?
- Yes, but not in the middle of nowhere. We are not getting afraid if there are some Disco pubs or bars nearby, I said.

After being changing ideas with each other they came up with a decision.
- Let's go to the city center. Square something is good, our driver said.
- What are we waiting for? Let's go already!

We checked out a restaurant and they only served “ American styled ” food and we were looking forGreenpeace's Rainbow Warrior in Piraeus/ Athens - Defending our Mediterranean 2006something Greek. We left and we walked around the city and we passed a bar and we decided to stop for refreshment.

Well, we spent most of the night there and when we were ready we went to another place for a little something to eat. Well, we didn't have much to eat and I left for a Disco and the rest of the gang returned to the ship.

I spent an hour going around in the TAXI looking at different clubs, well, my concrete hat came on I asked the driver to take me to Marriott hotel. It was way pass my nap time.

and it was very nice to wake up in a real hotel room with you ownMarriott Athens Ledrabathroom. My bed was so big, well, after 2 months in the box I sleep in onboard Rainbow Warrior this bed was huge. It was hard to find the way out of the bed, but maybe there was another reason for that. I had a hangover and I had 2 bottles ( 1 litre each)of water first thing.

I had a nice breakfast, a full Marriott breakfast with a Cook in the corner making you your choice of breakfast. Fresh bread and strawberry jam is a winner together with Earl Grey tea.

I was soon back in my room and I spent the morning lolling around in bed looking at BBC world and drinking Diet Drinks. Room service was knocking on my door all morning, but I learnt a new trick.Marriott Athens LedraWhen you order just give them instructions to knock on the door and leave the stuff outside the door.

Then you don't have to run around open doors and meet people you don't care too much to meet.

I watched HardTALK on BBC World and that's one of the best shows on TV, but I miss the old grumpy guy, whatever his name is again. It's interesting to see the different techniques they use to avoid giving a straight answer to the question.

Some of the guest is excellent and, well, some are not. I had a good morning but the day was soon turning in to shit. Breaking news on BBC: LEBANON AND ISRAEL WAS AT WAR. The war had just started and we were heading to Israel and Lebanon with Rainbow Warrior. And I was very worried about our Lebanese Princesses and I sprung out of bed. I checked out and I took a taxi back to Rainbow Warrior.

I was back onboard at 1230 and the press conference was just about to begin. They were holding a press conference in the cargo hold and there were Journalists and Photographers all over the ship.Greenpeace's Rainbow Warrior in Piraeus/ Athens -Defending our Mediterranean 2006A REAL DREAM COMES TRUE!

I moved in for a fistful of my Men's Mega Men vitamin tablets. They are time released according to the label on the jar. It seems like they use this as a sales argument. Who cares? I wanted them to kick in ASAP.

Then I went to look for our Lebanese Princesses and they were of course thinking that I was joking when I told them about the war in Lebanon. Who would joke about something like that?

We had received new Notice to Mariners and I was on the bridge correcting charts, but I had to move to my cabin. Millions of Journalists and Photographers wanted to take my picture.

I was correcting charts at the chart table and a girl passed me with a group of people taking a tour on Rainbow Warrior and the bridge.
- Oh you have a tattoo
She told me she had a tattoo as well and before I could stop her she had pulled down her pants to show me her tattoo on her behind.

I was saved by a chart. We have ordered BA chart 1675 over Turkey, but we never received the chart. So I had to go ashore to buy this chart. I looked for retailers in the Chart catalogue and there was a few providers listed for Piraeus. I wrote down the address and I left Rainbow Warrior
- Take a taxi!!
- Are you crazy, we're in the business of saving the world.
Yes, I was not going in a taxi as I wanted to stay away from the crowd as long as possible. And itYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stwas very nice to leave the ship for a walk through the town. I managed to find the chart but it was not easy to find the shop. This was not actually a shop, they provided charts for shipping companies and they were located on the third floor.

So no shop to look for, just a small brass sign and a button for the bell. I walked back to the ship and the whole adventure had lasted for about two hours.

When I came back it was almost time for the open ship. At 18:00 the open the ship for the public and there was people over the whole ship. This will last until 9 or 9 thirty when the Greenpeace party starts at the nightclub next to our ship.

I was almost alone on board listening to the music from the night club, I had 3 Italian volunteers on board and we took the opportunity to get a haircut. Yes, important to look good.

Thursday 13 th of July 2006
and the night passed by quite quickly, I was watching the ship listening to the music from the night club. And of course, all the people coming and going. I saw one of ourGreenpeace's Rainbow Warrior in Piraeus/ Athens - Defending our Mediterranean 2006girls coming down towards the ship. There was a small park surrounded by bushes. She walked with a guy and it looked like they, well, I don't know. it looked like she felt in to the bushes.
- Was she pushed?
Looked like the guy felt on top of her
- Was she under attack?

I went to check it out, well it was not as bad as it looked. 2 crew members in love? I returned to the ship to guard it against terrorists and girls wanting to get married with our hero.

I had the Italian volunteers as company, I think they were hangover from our adventure at Acropolos yesterday and they stayed on board. So time passed pretty quickly.

Rosita - Don't look happy to leave Rainbow Warrior

Our Spanish Deckhand, Miss Rosita was leaving us, and she was not happy to leave us behind. A taxi was ordered for 4 o'clock in the morning and she had a last cup of tea with me on the jetty whileGreenpeace's Rainbow Warrior in Piraeus/ Athens - Defending our Mediterranean 2006waiting for the taxi.

She was not happy, but I was very relieved when the taxi came. She was about to go sentimental and her starting to was not far away. That would have been embarrassing so I was pretty relieved that I didn't have to experience Rosita crying.

I had been on board with her for 2 months and it had been a very good time, she had always been happy. Well, expect one morning when she complained about her not getting Spaghetti during her watches. And of course, today, she was not happy when she left.

We were expected to leave at 12 o'clock and I had time to go ashore for my breakfast, and man, was I happy that I had the duty last night. No hangover! But I was dead tired as I had been upYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stuntil 5 in the morning. There was a coffee shop in the marina and I had my morning tea and a cheese & ham baguette.

We got a new Cook and an Action coordinator from Turkey yesterday. Our old Cook left the ship early this morning and before we left our Australian Journalist and British Action coordinator leftGreenpeace's Rainbow Warrior in Piraeus/ Athens - Defending our Mediterranean 2006the ship.

All the Greek crew, including the Greek Goddess had signed off and the British Photographer, Nick Cobbing had left yesterday. But we have a new Journalist onboard from Austria, she works on a Women's lifestyle magazine.

When I woke up at my hotel I saw on the BBC world that Israel had attached Lebanon and I listened to Swedish Radio on the internet while working with the charts in my cabin. Today they said that the Israelis had bombed Beirut's International airport and that they had closed it. I guess I can't sign off in Lebanon as originally planned. And our Lebanese Princesses had promised to take me around Beirut.

Our Cook was busy baking bread and something that reminded me of the Swedish Raggmunk, but DARN! We departed from Piraeus at 12:00 and I missed the lunch, typical. But there were 3 left for me at dinner.
All our Greek volunteers and our Greek Goddess were on the jetty when we left Piraeus behind.

Our Webbie were in the bridge looking for information about the Corinth Canal in the Pilot book, obviously she hasn't visited my web page. There she can find all the interesting facts about theGreenpeace's Rainbow Warrior in Piraeus/ Athens - Defending our Mediterranean 2006Corinth Canal that she will ever need.

Our Austrian Journalist came to the bridge and she wanted some pictures for the magazine. She asked our Webbie if she could take pictures of me showing her the equipment on the bridge. I was lucky that I was wearing my black t-shirt, black makes you look small. And I've heard that stripes is something to avoid if you look like a anti aircraft balloon

Blue or black or whatever, I have no desire to end up in a Women's lifestyle magazine exposing myself for the world. My healthy personality and sporty lifestyle, yeah, you can imagine all the offers I will receive about marriage. That is from the serious readers, many will just want to use me as a toy.

But I could not get any copies of the pictures as they were going to appear in the magazine. Well, she was sweet and I could not say no so we took the pictures of me showing her the bridge.

and the wind had decreased when I came on my watch at midnight. When we left Piraeus we had a wind blowing from the North with a force 6. I was alone with the Doctor on the watch because the Italian Campaigner left us in Piraeus. I think my Doctor on the watch was a little disappointed during our watch.
- Now I have you all by myself. Now we can talk, she said.
- I'm busy, I said.
After a while she asked:
- Do you have your camera with you?
- No, I answered.
- It’s just because we are alone. You don't want to take pictures of me, she said.
SmileyI didn't see that one coming and I was unable to speakfor several minutes. When I asked her where she came up with all this things she answered:
- I was just joking!
- NO! You were not joking! Even if I mustered all my imagination I could never come up with something like that.

After my watch I had a cup of tea with our Video man in the mess room. He was up early to do some work. When I finished my tea I went to chew on my shoes in the cabin. I had my lastcigarette 4 hours and 13 minutes ago and now we can talk about kicking arse. I use double nico patches and this time I can sense the success.

I woke up by the fire alarm at 10:30, false alarm. Our cook was boiling water and the heat sensor in the galley went off. I returned to bed and I managed to get a little sleep before my watch.

When I came on the bridge we were approaching the Dardanelles and the Canakkle Bogazi.

Bogazi means strait in Turkish. Well, I'm happy that I can keep this LANGUAGE surprises coming up. It makes the whole reading experience a little more interesting.

The pilot boards 5 NM West of the Kumkale L/H in the mouth of Canakkle Bogazi and when I called them to give the 1 hour notice they informed me that the pilot would board us a beam of the Kumkale L/H. Pilot boarded us at 17:00 and we continued on our way to Istanbul.

Back in 2006 this was picture #424

At 19:45 it was time for a crew picture again. I missed the last one, but this time I will ask our Photographer from New Zealand to take one picture with my camera as well.

We did the picture a little earlier than planned. We had to change course towards East and then we would lose the sunshine. Well, our World Famous Photographer from New Zealand took the picture with my camera. He is the very same that took the famous picture of Rainbow Warrior in full sail.

One thing is for sure, there is a difference between cameras. It's worth to pay the extra. I compared the picture he took with my camera and his own professional camera. It was like day and night, but his camera comes with a hefty price tag.

Blah-blahI spent the evening talking with our Austrian Journalist on deck. We blah-blah away a few hours and it was soon time for my watch. Time is passing quickly while chatting with a beautiful lady. So don't tell our Doctor that our watches are passing very quickly when chatting to her. Well, anyway, the Austrian Journalist told me that she knew Astrid Lindgren. She had grown up with Pippi, Emil and Karlsson on the roof.
- So you will read Astrid Lindgren for your children? I asked
- Yeah
- Would you like someone to do it in the original language? I asked.

Our pilot left us during the evening and I hope to arrive to Istanbul midday tomorrow, not early in the morning. I need some sleep if we should be able to check out all the Disco pubs in Istanbul. I don't want to get tired at midnight, but I guess that we are in the hands of the TAXI drivers. Motion sickness is nothing I wish for tomorrow evening.

Just click HERE and you will soon find out about Rainbow Warrior's crew's adventure in Istanbul.
