Day 3

Monday 23 rd of December 2024 and my alarm went of at 4 o'clock. Still pain in my toes, but no bleeding even though the toe looks like a Balloon. I felt asleep at 7 o'clock and I woke up at 9 thirty again.

I decided to stay in my room until the afternoon. There are still plenty pictures to sort out so I will keep myself busy. And I could hear the rain so it was cozy to sit in the room with the rain falling outside.

Leaving for the reception at 1 thirty to confirm my bookings, 25th in the morning before they come to pick me up for the next hotel. And tomorrow morning, I will go up the mountain to look for three species living at 3000 meters altitude. The only place to see these birds.

I decided to give the Resplendent Quetzal a second try and I asked if she could book a tour for me tomorrow morning. She would see if there was any private tour available and she would let me know when I am back from the birding station.

Private tour again, what a waste of money with all the people coming to look for the bird. But if I had been in the group, I would never have seen the bird. Thanks to being on a private tour I could leave with my Guide and we got to see the bird.

I started my eBird app and I walked to the feeding station keeping an eye out for birds. A couple of Rufous-collared Sparrows and some other birds that I could not see very wellas they moved around in the foliage.

The first “real” bird I see is the Acorn Woodpecker making a lot of noise outside the feeding station. The first bird I get on picture is a new LIFER, the Chestnut-capped Brushfinch.

I go to sit down on the stairs up to the viewing platform. There are chairs on the platform but it is a wee bit too far away from the birds. So the stairs it is.

Except for the Chestnut-capped Brushfinch I see the same birds I spotted last time I was here. Well, the Northern Emerald-Toucanet was not seen today.

I see a group of birds, looking like Rufous-collared Sparrows but something was off. I sent a picture to www.birdforum.net for assistance and they came back with the ID. It was a group of Rose-breasted Grosbeak.

I could see that the clouds/ fog came rolling in over the mountains and I was starting to think about going back to the room.

The girl from the reception came to tell me that I was on for the early morning Resplendent Quetzal tour. Private tour with Miss Gorgeous.Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st

Private tour might seem like a waste of money with all the peopel looking for the bird. But I was rethinking the private tour, if I had been in the group I would not have seen the Resplendent Quetzal. Now we could take off and we spotted the bird.
