and I am out of bed at 5 thirty. Snoozed my alarm that went off at 4 o'clock. I could hear the Montezuma Oropendola in the tree above my balcony and I was eager to get out on the balcony.
I put on the kettle and I go out to enjoy my morning tea and cheese looking at the birds.

The Montezuma Oropendola looks to have nest, or building nests in the tree next to my balcony and I can enjoy the sound they make from the tree. There are plenty birds and many LIFERS.
Spotting the Black-cheeked Woodpecker and I ID the bird as the Acorn Woodpecker. But later on when I brought the picture to the Hotel Manager he put me straight. It is a male Black-cheeked Woodpecker.
There was another woodpecker, the Hoffmann's Woodpecker and there were a few of them. There is a light fixture on the wall next to my balcony and there was one Black Phoebe. Sitting on the top of the lamp and I could get a picture when it went down on the roof next to the balcony.

Turning off the eBird app and I go back in to my room to have a look at my new pictures. I really did not have any expectations as the light conditions had been much less than favourable and an crazy ISO speed was required.
But they came out good enough for my eBird report. I heard some ruckus from the garden and I went on the balcony and I spotted two Keel-billed Toucans.
Getting a few pictures for the eBird report and I reported the two birds as an “Incidental” report. The others are reported as “Stationary” as I am at the same spot all the time, either on my balcony or on the viewing platform on the ground floor.

My Keel-billed Toucans were reported at 8 thirty and I turned on my eBird app again 2 hours later. I use the same eBird hotspot: Arte de Plumas Birding Lodge
and “Stationary” and I have the app running for an hour before I stop it again.
And I got one new LIFER, the Grey-headed Chachalaca. I also got pictures of the White-necked Jacobin, a humming bird that I have seen in Panama.

I work with the pictures for about 90 minutes, a lot of pictures went to the garbage bin. Turning on the eBird app again at 1 o'clock when I spotted 4 Groove-billed Ani landing in front of my balcony. No pictures as they were sitting in the bushes.
Enjoying my tea on the balcony when suddenly the anis landed and I turned on my eBird app. I was drinking tea looking out for the Montezuma Oropendola. They are feeding their young and the one I have seen are double the size of the mommy bringing food to them.
Our Hotel Manager had lent me a tripod for my camera and I am stand-by on the balcony with my camera on the tripod. I want to have a video of the birds feeding the young as it looks very funny with the half size adult feeding the giant baby.
Drinking tea and eating cheese and jumping up every now and then to start the video, but all of the videos turned out to be garbage. But I get some practice doing videos.
I get to see one new LIFER, the Groove-billed Ani, and I was surprised. I thought I had seen the bird in Bahamas, Panama or Brazil, but that was the Smooth-billed Ani. DARN! If I had knew this, I would have put some efforts in to get a picture today. But there is a day tomorrow as well.

It started to rain and I was soon turning off my eBird app. Enough for today and I have seen a lot of birds in Costa Rica. And I enjoy my holiday, siting on the balcony drinking tea or diet drinks looking at birds.
Going down to have a look from the viewing platform. Talking birds with the Hotel Manager and then back up to the balcony again. And when I see I bird I don't know, I go down to ask the
Hotel Manager about the IG.
They have managed to find a few avocados and I went down to get a plate that I brought to my balcony. I made tea and I enjoyed the avocado and my tea while looking at birds.
Relaxing and enjoying, no need to run around chasing birds. As I tell my Guide, I do not care if I see 2 or 500 different birds, I am here to enjoy. And I am very happy with the birds I have seen so far and I do not need to chase any birds.
But we will take off tomorrow morning at 7 o'clock to look for a bird in the river passing below the hotel. And I hear the river from my room and it is a nice sound to have when going to bed and when I wake up.
But I am very happy with today, 26 species and 8 LIFERS
