and my alarm goes off at 4 o'clock. I felt asleep again and I did not wake up until 5 thirty. I have tea and cheese on the balcony while watching the birds.
My last morning on the balcony and I got to see both the Keel-billed Toucan and the Collared Aracari. And as an extra bonus I got a recording of the Keel-billed Toucan as well.

I pack my bags and I am ready to leave. My Driver arrives 10 minutes before 12 o'clock and we are soon on our way towards San Jose and Hotel Robledal. We make a stop at the bridge to look for the Sunbittern.
No Sunbitterns to be seen, but there was one bird watching group looking for birds. We are hungry, lunch time. One thing is for sure, we will not eat at Betico Grill Garden after the passion fruit mousse disappointment yesterday.
I ask the Driver for suggestions and we will go to try a restaurant further up the hill. Drive past Betico Grill Garden for about 100 meters and take off to the right. Up the mountain for a bit and you reach Moon B Restaurant.
We have steak and as we did not learn anything from yesterday, we asked for cake as well.

My steak
They call this extra whipping cream?
My cake have been on a trip to the kitchen
Cake with extra whipping cream, or as we call it in Spanish: Whipping Cream BOMBASTC! They told
me “no problem” so I was very surprised when they brought the cake with next to no whipping cream on my cake.
I sent out the cake to the kitchen and I was somewhat satisfied when they brought back the cake. I got a diet drink “take away” and we went to the car to continue to San Jose and Hotel Robledal.
We leave Turrialba and my driver tells me that he will take a short cut. There is a highway but no one seems to use it. Same when we came here, driving along the small country roads.
Reaching Cartag and it was still a country road. We got up on the highway just outside San Jose
and we reached San Jose 10 minutes later. Now we need to find a tree as I was about to piss my pants in the back seat.
We find a place driving through the suburbs. A small shopping center, everything was closed except
for a restaurant. But there was a bathroom in the garden and I was happy when we left. Nice, now I want to get to my hotel and I enjoy my diet drink in the back seat.
Passing a shopping mall, Multiplaza, same as in Panama City. There is a highway from just after the shopping mall to the airport.
We are finally on a highway
Reaching the airport
Airplane taking off
Passing the airport and we take off the highway and we reach Hotel Robledal 10 minutes later. Check-in and they tell me that there is one Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl sitting in the garden.
We go to my room and then we continue to the garden to have a look for the Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl. We see the bird and I get both a record and a picture. I meet another bird watcher and he had seen the Cinnamon Hummingbird.
We had a chat and he will leave for Reserva El Copal tomorrow and I told him that he would see a lot of beautiful birds there.

I had booked my room and the thing that made me choose the room was of course that it was
close to the airport. But the main thing was the desk, a must when I do my bird pictures.
I need to have a place to sit down but here was nothing even reminding me about a desk. A bed side table and something else. It must have been the smallest room I have ever stayed in. My luggage on the floor and there was no space to even stand up in the room.
I went to the reception to complain and they changed my room so it was 6 o'clock in the evening before I have settled in my room.

I wsnot sohappy with Hotel Robledal, no bird watching guides as was announced on their web page. Why the
did I come here.
I could have stayed for 3 more days at Arte de Plumas Birding Lodge, well, 2 days as my flight is early morning. No birding guide and I was really not happy and I will be surprised to find myself at the “birding destination ” Hotel Robledal.
I went to ask if there was a convenient store nearby so I could get some honey for my tea. They offered me some honey, but this was a small bowl, enough for a cup of tea. But I did not bother to explain about my tea bucket.
I find a convenient store
I take a taxi to the convenient store and we are soon on our way back to Hotel Robledal where I can have a cup of tea. No new from the reception about the birding Guide for tomorrow and I will go there tomorrow morning to see if we can arrange something.
You just click HERE
to find out if there will be any bird watching tomorrow.
