Sunday 9thof March 2025and it is a 3 minutes’ walk to HERTZ office from the train station in Malmö The office is closed so I have to get my key from a machine. Walk across the street to the parking house.
Elevator to the fifth floor and I found my white Volvo. Nice to put my luggage in the back of the car. But it was no problem with the luggage, the big Samsonite is kind of OK. But the carry-on Tumi bag, very expensive, that I bought at Suvarnabhumi las time leaving Bangkok. My Samsonite broke down at the airport security.
I bought the Tumi and it is like a dream rolling it around. My flimsy Samsonite laptop bag was scrapped at Singapore airport last time and I bought a new Tumi laptop bag, I think it was 800 US Dollars. Very expensive equipment.
But rolling my stuff from the train to the car and it was worth it. I still remember buying a nice luggage set when I was going to Rainbow Warrior. NEVER AGAIN! I big suitcase with a matching carry-on. Beautiful and all wheeled.
The wheels came of the carry-on before reaching the gate, of course, the whole set was 100 US Dollars and I should have known better.

Taking off without my hat
Heading south towards Skanör
Getting out of Malmö and it was nice to get on the highway heading south towards Skanör to look for the King Eider. Gorgeous weather, spring time and it is very cold during the night, but it is quickly getting warmer when the sun is coming up.
Definition of summer when the temperature difference between night and day is maximum 5° C, or something like that. Now it is almost 20° C difference so we have some time to go before it is summer in the northern Europe again.
It is a gorgeous morning and I see the temperature rising on the instrument in the car. Reaching Skanör/ Falsterbo and I take off to get down to the Falsterbo Canal to see if there is any birds along the canal
There are not many bird, but I see one seal swimming in the canal.

I make a U-turn and I went in to have a look. I have been here before, a few years ago. And I was hungry so I ordered tea and a little snack.

Semla
Leaving Annas Bageri and I am full, I have not had any semla for a long time. It was good, but seriously, not so good as I am in a hurry to have a semla again. Better with my“ TUNA & ONION SURPRISE
”®, and it would for sure be healthier.
I reach theeBird hotspot: Skanör--Hamnenand I start my eBird app at 09:34 and there are hundreds of Tufted Ducks. Tufted Duck is a very beautiful duck but too far away for any good pictures. But good enough for ID.
One single Common Starling was sitting in the top of one tree and I was a little excited, a sure sign of spring. Another sign of spring is all the geese coming to Sweden.
There were many Barnacle geese but I could not see any King Eider.

My plan is to visit one more hotspot in Skanør before driving towards north again. I start my eBird app at 10:03 using the hotspotFalsterbonäset--Knävångenand there are thousands of Barnacle gooses and more and huge groups of them are flying in for landing all the time.
The fields were full of Common Starlings and Hooded Crows. I spotted three Skylarks driving around, otherwise not much to report in my eBird app. A group of plovers on the field.

Driving back towards Helsingborg in the north and I enjoy to drive through the beautiful landscape. I have not had any refreshments for a while and I will stop at a petrol station to buy a few bottles to keep in the car.
I take off the highway at the petrol station in Glumslöv and I see a giant soft ice cream outside the shop when I park the car. This was a very pleasant surprise.
I stepped inside, full of expectations, instant disappointment. The ice cream machine had broken down and they wait for a new one, any day she informed me. I told her that by then I would be sucking on an exhaust pipe.
I bought a few drinks and I went back to my car and I was soon leaving the disappointment behind.
I was drooling with anticipation

I stop at theeBird hotspot: Rosendals våtmarkto see if there are any birds. There were many Northern Lapwing and my guess are that they have just arrived to Sweden from the south.
They are usually lonely, but there was plenty of them together on the ground and one big group was flying around.
There were a couple of Greylag Gooses and one Common Goldeneye. Two coots so it was worth coming here, no good pictures but a little something to report to eBird.

I have a new cap
I drive to my nephews and I take the cap I gave them when I was in Sweden the last time. It is not as nice as my “special” cap that I forgot on the plane. But it is good enough.
I bring my niece and my youngest nephew to go to have tea. My oldest nephew works in a coffee shop on weekends and during school holidays. Maybe we can get some special discount.
We park the car and we stop to buy some shirts for me, I need some shirts for working. Looked very cheap on the internet, but as the girl told me. - That collection is not arriving until next month! - So it is only the expensive collection available?
I bought a bag of shirts and we went to have afternoon tea at my nephew’s coffee shop.

Monday 10thof March 2025and I wake up at 3 o'clock in the morning after a night with a very good sleep. I had time for two buckets of tea before I left to look for birds at 8 o'clock.
I will drive south to Revingehed to look for birds. The Red-breasted Goose have been sighted and that is a rare bird alert.
And I can put a new LIFER to my list if I can get to see the Red-breasted Goose. And I will go to see if the White Stork couple have arrived from Africa.
They use the same nest year after year and I was a little excited when I left my room.
Revingehed
Revingehed is a military training area located at Revingeby approximately 20 kilometres east of Lund in southern Sweden. Revingehed is one of the largest military training areas in Sweden.
It includes 4,600 hectares of forest land and open water. The area is primarily used by the South Scanian Regiment (P 7), which is also located adjacent to the training area.
Revingehed covered approximately 20 hectares in 1887, but was expanded to 100 hectares in 1888. During World War II, the training area was expanded to 1,000 hectares.
Since the South Scanian Infantry Regiment (I 7) was reorganized into the armoured South Scanian Regiment (P 7), the training area was expanded to 4,400 hectares, and with it became Sweden's largest armour training area.
The training area was put into use in 1888 and is often used for large military exercises, but over the years has also been used for other purposes. At the end of World War I, Revingehed had to house foreign prisoners of war waiting for them to return home.
Gorgeous morning, cold, but it was blue sky and sunshine. Frost in the morning but the temperature was slowly rising while I was driving south.
The first bird I reported was one Common Pheasant that I passed at 08:47. I could not stop to take pictures, but I reported it to eBird. Passing Eslöv and I spotted some Grey lag Geese on the field.
Stopping to see if there was any Red-breasted Goose among them, no luck. But I could also report one coot and 5 Eurasian Wigeon.

Passing another Common Pheasant close to the road and I make a U-turn to try to get a picture. Not so much traffic and I managed to get a picture.
Reporting one more Red Kite before I reach Revingehed. Driving towards the house where the White Stork had had their babies last time I was here. And I could see the stork on their nest approaching the house.
No babies as I think it is too early for eggs. But there will soon be babies in the nest. I tried to get a few pictures, but the nest was between me and the sun so they were not so good.
But I have pictures from the last time I was here, and then there was babies as well.
I leave the storks alone and I continue and I spot four Common Chaffinches. Another sign of that we are in the spring time.

Monday and I expect people to be a work, but the bird watching towers at Vombs ängar was full of people. The gravel road was full of people and I suspect that they have come to look for the Red-breasted Goose.
I had see two Red Kites and one Eurasian Skylark. A huge group of Barnacle Geese and I could spot some Graylag Geese and the Greater White-fronted Geese.
But no sign of any Red-breasted Goose. I did not bother to get out of the car, no space to park the car and there were plenty people.

I was getting hungry and I stopped my eBird app and I started to drive back to my room. Spotting one Common Raven in top of a tree and I try to get close for a picture, but the bird takes off before I get a picture.
Driving through a beautiful landscape heading towards north and I spotted one raptor sitting on a roof on a lone house next to the road. I make a U-turn to go back to try to get a picture.
Approaching the house from north and the bird takes off landing in a tree. Making a new U-turn and there is really no chance to get any pictures of the bird behind the branches.
Driving by a couple of times to try and the bird take off. I give up and heading back north. Lo and behold, after 100 meters and the bird is sitting on a pole.
A little bit too far away for good pictures.
Common Buzzard
Passing Eslöv and I decide to drive through the town to look for a restaurant, no hambureger, pizza or kebab place. A restaurant with Swedish food, next to impossible to find today.
But I found a place with a sign that they were selling Engelholms Glass. I was full og hope stepping in to the lunch restaurant. The disappointments hit me one by one very quickly.
- Do you have Raggmunk? - Yes - YIPPEE
It was like winning the lottery, I asked for two plates and I took my seat. - Are you sure you want two plates? - Jut bring it on!
A few minutes later, and she was back and she told me that she could not find the Raggmunk. I was thinking “find” so they are obviously ready-made. I asked for Äggakaga, but this was also ready-made.
But by now I was very hungry and I asked for a plate of Äggakaga. It was not good.
I asked for Engelholms Glass and by now I have lost the counts of the disappointments. But there were more disappointments to be delivered.
They did not have any Engelholms Glass (The best ice cream in the world) and I was glad to leave the place behind to never set foot there again.

Tuesday 11thof March 2025and I leave my room in Hyllinge at 6 o'clock. Metting at the office in Copenhagen at 9 o'clock and it is a wee bit more than an hour to reach the office. But I like to have ample time and who knows? Maybe there is a bird along the road.
Getting in to my car and I hear one Euroasian Robing sing and I make a recording before I leave.
Recorded with my mobile phone using my JBL microphone with the Merlin app. High Pass Filter applied with Audacity.
Getting in to my car and I can heard the bird singing.
I was very early even though I only kept 85 km/h on the highway so I stopped in Limnhamn to see if I could get in to the world-famous limestone quarry. The huge Jesus statue in Rio de Janeiro is bult with cement from here and thus they call the statue for “Limnhamns Jesus”
I had never been here before so I was very surprised when I saw the limestone quarry, it was huge. It was a foggy morning and I could hardly see the other end of the hole.
Driving around to look for a way to drive down to the limestone quarry but there wa sno way to get down with the car so I left heading for the bridge to Denmark.

Parking the car quarter past 8 o'clock and I killed time until 9 o'clock. I had my meeting, 20 minutes and the Superintendent did not understand why I had to come to the office.
But we had a chat and I was soon back in my car heading for Revingehed to look for birds.
I will give the Red-breasted Goose another chance, but the weather was at least to say leaving a lot to wish for. Drizzle and fog so it is not any favourable weather for bird watching.
I crossed the bridge and I paid the toll coming over to the Swedish side. It is around 64€ one way to cross the bridge so it is not cheap.

Crossing the road and I was on Revingehed and I drove to have my pick-nick lunch in the wilderness. Under a couple of trees, a couple of minutes away from the stork nest.
Gloom and grey for long as I could see so I do not expect many bird pictures. I left for theeBird Hotspot: Vombs ängarand I pass the stork nest on my way.

The fields had been full of geese yesterday and today I could only spot two Greylag Geese in a stream. There were plenty Common Gulls and one Black-headed Gull.
And no pictures, a few so I could ID the gulls coming back to my room that went to the garbage bin when I had ID the bird.

Turning of my eBird app and I start driving back towards the north and I today is the first time ever that I see tanks in the military exercise at Revingehed. Most likely because the stupid government want to throw us in to a war with Russia.
Of course, working on the orders from WEF to destroy the Western World.
There were a couple of mallards and goosanders in a small river. Otherwise, it had been a poor birding day. But as I say, even if you do not see the birds, you enjoy the surroundings.

I had given my oldest nephew the task to find a restaurant with raggmunk or fläskpankaka yesterday so I was delirious with anticipation when I went to see what he had found.
No raggmunk or fläskpankaka, but Skånsk Äggakaga, and the restaurant was open until 9 o'clock and we took off for dinner.

I was supposed to fly to Amsterdam tomorrow to join Maersk Crete but one day before arrival they have got changed orders, New York for orders. So, should I wait in Sweden or should I go to Thailand? Or fly somewhere else to look for birds?
+++++++++++++++
Wednesday 13thof March 2025and I book a ticket to Thailand as it looks like I will miss Maersk Crete. She will arrive to New York around 21st of March. I do not think I can get my USA visa in time so I will miss the ship.
Better they send me to join a ship in SE Asia. Anyway, I bought a ticket and I will fly to Bangkok tomorrow. And I will go have a look at Ravlunda Military Exercise Field to see if I can find any birds. The weather leave a lot to wish for but it might be sunshine later on. Yeah, fat chance!
I stop at Rosendals våtmark to see if there are any birds before continuing towards Ravlunda in the South East part of Skåne.
Gloom and grey for long as I could see, but I enjoyed the road trip. Crossing Skåne on small gravel roads and at 11:30 I stopped to take a picture of one lonely White Stork foraging in the field next to the road.
White Stork
Foggy and haze, rain and drizzle driving towards SE and when I passed Brösarp I passed a petrol station with a big flag with a soft ice cream.
Driving a wee bit too fast to stop but I made a mental note to stop on my way back.
I had to make a U-turn when I realized that I had passed Ravlunda and I drove back. There was a sign saying Ravlunda and I took off driving along a small road. Another sign and I turned left and I drove through the military camp.
I have been here before and it had been open fields, but now I was driving through a forest and I realized that I was lost. Getting back on the main road and I drive south to start all over again.
I pass the petrol station and this time I had slowed down in good time and I stopped. And hopefully the ice cream machine will work, why bother to put up a huge flag with the ice cream if the machine was not working?
I hope they have soft ice cream
The machine is working
It was a giant ice cream
YIPPEE!!!! The machine was working and I asked for their biggest ice cream. And I have neverhad such a nig ice cream before, will I manage to finish the ice cream? The ice cream was huge, but I managed to struggle my waythrough it.
I left the petrol station driving towards the sea and I take off towards Ravlunda. This time continue straight passing the military camp and I am soon recognizing the area.
Almost at the beach and there is a hostel and a dirt trach going out to the military exercise area where I had been driving around last time. But the road is blocked by a gate and I had spent 2 hours to get here, a huge disappointment. But it had been a nice ride coming here.
And I had got to enjoy a soft ice cream, but I had expected to have access to the military fields.
Access to the military field is blocked
Drive back towards north
Common Pheasant
I only see one bird on my way back to my room, one Common Pheasant that I could get on picture. I flushed a couple of Common Buzzards on the way, but not reported to eBird as I was not 100% sure on the ID.
I bought some falukorv as the plans have changed, now they want me to fly to Thailand. Quick changes, Amsterdam, New York and now Thailand. But a few falukorv (Falu sausage) will always come in handy.
I dropped my rented Volvo at 10 o'clock, HERTZ paring is on the fifth floor in the parking house. If it wasn't for me having to return the key I could have taken the elevator all the way down to the train station.
I crossed the road and I returned the key and I was soon back to the elevator. Stepping out on the platform and I bought a ticket to Kastrup, Copenhagen International. The train rolled in on track 1a and I could board the train straight away.
Ready to board the train
On my way to the airport
We were soon on our way towards the airport. One guy opposite of me said that it was a nice cap I was wearing. We had a chat for a couple of minutes before he got off the train at the next station and I was almost alone in the car again.
I was soon getting off at Kastrup, Copenhagen International Airport and the first thing I do is to make an eBird report for Peberholm.
I had spotted a lot of Northern Lapwings on the southern beach of Peberholm when we passed with the train after having crossed the bridge.
Passing Peberholm with train and car and there is aways a lot of birds, and Peberholm is an eBird hotspot even though it is not accessible. But looking at the eBird and it seems like the eBird checklists from Peberholm is from people that have passed with the train.
Peberholm
Peberholm is a small artificial island in the Danish part of the Øresund strait, created as part of the Øresund Bridge connecting Denmark with Sweden. Peberholm lies approximately 1 km south of the larger natural island of Saltholm (Salt Islet) and was named to complement it.
It has an area of 1.3 km2 (320 acres) and belongs to Denmark.

By Nick-D - Own work, CC BY-SA 4.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=118217326
Reasons for construction
The reason for constructing the island was to have a crossover point between the tunnel and the bridge.
The tunnel was built since a bridge spanning the entire link between Malmö and Copenhagen would have interfered with obstacle-free zones around Kastrup Airport. Another reason was to enable large ships to pass the Öresund without worrying about the height of the bridge. Making the Øresund Bridge higher would have interfered with the freight train traffic because a steeper gradient would be needed.
The border between Swedish and Danish railway signaling and railway traffic control is on Peberholm.
There is an exit from the motorway on the island, banned from unauthorized traffic, and a helicopter pad mainly planned for usage at traffic accidents (55°36′03″N 12°45′05″E).
Searching for access every time I have passed Peberholm with the car but they are all blocked and I have wondered how this is an eBird hotspot. But now I know, the bird reports are from people passing by train.
Peberholm was my last report to eBird for this time and I made an eBird Trip Report.
eBird Trip Report
Since April 2023 eBird offer a new feature, to create Trip Reports. At least this is when I first heard of this feature and I have decided to make the eBird Trip Reports instead of my list of OBSERVED birds.
And of course, this also means that I will HAVE TO go back and do the same for my old birding adventures, WHEN I HAVE THE TIME!

Exotic species
Exotic species flags differentiate locally introduced species from native species.
Naturalized:Exotic population is self-sustaining, breeding in the wild, persisting for many years, and not maintained through ongoing releases (including vagrants from Naturalized populations). These count in official eBird totals and, where applicable, have been accepted by regional bird records committee(s).
Provisional:Either:1)member of exotic population that is breeding in the wild, self-propagating, and has persisted for multiple years, but not yet Naturalized;2)rarity of uncertain provenance, with natural vagrancy or captive provenance both considered plausible.
When applicable, eBird generally defers to bird records committees for records formally considered to be of "uncertain provenance". Provisional species count in official eBird totals.
Escapee:Exotic species known or suspected to be escaped or released, including those that have bred but don't yet fulfil the criteria for Provisional. Escapee exotics do not count in official eBird totals.
Thai Airways check-in had not yet opened by the time I arrived. But I could see that they removed the Singapore Airlines equipment from the check/in desks and they rolled out the Thai Airways stuff.
Security was done quickly and I was soon in the tax-free shop and I was looking for a pouch for my cables. When I bought the Tumi in Singapore there were a pouch in the bag, but it is too big.
One guy was looking at my MEGA cap and he looked upset. I came out from one of the shops where I had been looking for a pouch. I could see the guy standing up in a coffee shop, 50 meters away, looking at me shaking his head. What an idiot!
I had some bread in the lounge, the bread is the main attraction in the SAS lounge. Fresh Danish bread and I could not help myself so, I had two “manly” seized pieces of bread before leaving for the immigration and the gate.
Leaving for the gate early, even though I knew that the boarding is always delayed. Everywhere in the world, except Japan. They are so sorry even in the boarding is delayed by only a minute.
Our plane is waiting for us

I had passed the security already so I could by two bottles of refreshments before continuing towards the gate. Stopping to take a picture of the plane and I am surprised to see that people are walking towards the door on the jet bridge.
It was a queue walking towards the plane so I figured out that it was not the cleaning crew. Boarding, and it was very early.
And yes, I could walk straight onboard and I was in my seat before the boarding time. Good, better to sit in my seat waiting to be pulled off the jet bridge than to hang around a crowdedboarding area.
Amazing how the crew can remember names, all the crew greeted me by “Welcome Mr. Aladdin” and when I was in my seat they came to introduce themselves.
The Flight Manager came to lay down on his knee next to my seatand he explained the flight for me and I was very embarrassing. All the other passengers were looking at me and I felt more than a little stupid.
I must be the only gold member on board because I think this is the gold member courtesy that I can live without.
Happens to me on almost all the Thai Airways flights. And I was flying with my friend to Hat Yai and he was wondering what thewas going on when they came to kneel in the aisle next to me.
This might have been cool back when I was 25, but at 60 it is just embarrassing. I just want to sink down in the seat imagine to be invisible.
Enjoying a refreshment
Enjoying a refreshment
They came to ask what I wanted to have for dinner, but as I had have the two “manly” seized pieces of bread in the lounge I skipped the food. Just Earl Grey tea.
We are pulled off the jet bridge and we are soon airborne. They bring me tea and I start to watch a series and time turns really quickly. I wanted to be asleep at 6 o'clock to get 5 hours or something like that of sleep before arrival.
+++++++++++++++
Friday 14thof March 2025and it was past 7 (01:00 Thai time) when I turned my chair in to a bed. 5 hours to go and I never managed to fall asleep. Two hours before arrival and they woke us up, FER DUCKS SAKE!
Excellent breakfast and two more cups of tea and I was ready for touch down. Trying for a quick nap but I could not fall asleep and I spent the last hour starring in to the wall in front of me.
Arriving to Suvarnabhumi
Immigration and custom was done in a few minutes, yeah, well, give and take. Back home for a power nap and I will go to see The Red Devil (ปีศาจแดง ก.กุมานนท์) at Chaiyasit Muay Thai Gym tomorrow morning.
And I will see if there are time to go to look for birds with my Honda Giorno, the bird watching scooter tomorrow afternoon. ClickHEREto check it out!
