Aladdin's adventure aboard M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maersk

Wednesday 11 th of March 2015 and I stepped on board M/T Romø Mærsk around 7 o'clock in the evening. I was still full after my hamburger (2) and my large milkshake at Dairy Queen at whatAladdin's adventure aboard M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskever the place was called. And yes, we're not in Thailand anymore and large means a foocking bucket. So I was full, and as soon as I stepped on board it means the beginning of the diet.

I recognised our 2nd Officer already from his voice on the walkie talkie when I stepped on deck. I was with him on Roy Maersk and I hope he will stay until I go home.

I met the off signing Chief Officer in the CCR and we had a chat before I went for a shower. He will leave tomorrow afternoon at 3. I'm dead tired and he is tired so we will have a few hours for the hand over tomorrow afternoon.

Thursday 12 th of March 2015
and I got out of bed at 7. I had been sleeping for about 8 hoursYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stand I felt like a million. Well, that was until we came out on deck, it was freezing coldYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stin the wind.

I walked around on deck with the off signing Chief Officer and it was pretty much the same as on Roy Maersk and it was very nice to be back in the CCR again. Off signing Chief Officer is scheduledAladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskto leave at 15:00 with off signing Chief Engineer and 4th Engineer.

But wind is picking up and the boat could not come so they had to leave with the boat delivering stores and they were off around 1 o'clock.

And we had some crew going ashore so they were disappointed when the shore leave was cancelled due to bad weather. Of course, I was also disappointed as they were going to buy tea cups for me. And as we expect to finish discharging in the middle of the night I went to bed at 6.

I was lucky, I managed to fall asleep, but I soon woke up with the worst headache ever. Jeez, it felt like my head was going to explode. I managed to fall asleep again but the headache woke me up several times and I was awake when they called me at 2 thirty.

Friday 13 th of March 2015
and I had a shower before I went down to the CCR. My head ache was a wee bit better. But what the hell was it? I think it might be the bed, I think it was on RoyAladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe MaerskMaersk and we had to call radio medical because of pain in my neck and head. They told me it was a stressed muscle in my neck from the bed.

Well, anyway, I was in the CCR quarter to 3 and our 2nd Officer was stripping tanks. I would love to have a cup of tea, but as they didn't went ashore to get me a rea l cup yesterday I skipped the idea.

We completed discharging at 4 thirty and at 6 thirty we shifted the ship a few meters forward so we could connect the bunker arm.

The crew did all this while I did paper work with our Surveyors and when they were ready weAladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskwaited for the Loading Master and our Chief Engineer took over the show. They had a pre bunkering meeting in the office.

We will bunker FO and DO and we expect to leave Point Tupper behind around lunch time. We have no idea where to go, but they had made inquiries about the Panama Canal.

I really hopeYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stwe're going back to Europe or at least thatYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stwe're going South leaving Canada and the winter behind.

I managed to get an hour of sleep and they called me at 11 thirty, I didn't want to sleep too long as it would give me trouble sleeping in the evening. We had received order to steam towards UK/ Gibraltar at departure. Good, I want to go back to Europe and if we have 14 days to get there itwill be April, almost, and spring time.

I really hope I don't have to wear my fur hat again. Well, not until I get on my Polar bearquest in June. But for that I have my special polar bear hat I picked up last time in Sweden. And with all the trouble I went through toPolar Bear Questget the polar bear hat I will wear it even if it 30°C when we're out looking for polar bears. I got a whole pack of information about our expedition sent to me in Bangkok a few months ago.

I opened the pack and I read the introduction letter, “Dear Polar Friend” andPolar Bear Questthat was exciting enough. I decided to study the rest when I got on board and I brought the information pack with me to Romø Mærsk. I started to read it today and I was soon realising that I should have read it when I got it.

They suggest that we should bring rubber boats and a whole lot of stuff that I don't have. We will be on a cruise ship but we will go ashore for expeditions inAladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskinflatable rubber boats and we will get wet. Well, I will look for some bags for my shoes, no way I will carry around rubber boats. There is no space for them in my weekend bag.

We were ready with the bunkering and I was in the office at 15 thirty.

Our Agent was on board and he had been a shore to “arrange” a real size tea cup for me. I was already in a good mood, but the good mood got a real boost when I saw the cup. Now I can enjoy my watches on the bridge. He brought two other mugs, but they were normal size as they only had one remaining teaAladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskcup in the shop. Well, I had one cup for the bridge and I was happy.

Pilot came on board a few minutes later, I heard them on the radio when I was in the CCR doing a final departure stability report.

We left Point Tupper 10 minutes past 4 o'clock in the afternoon. It was very windy and cold when we steamed down the Strait of Conso with Cape Breton Island on our Port side and Nova Scotia on our Starboard side. Yes, it will be nice to leave this placeAladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskbehind, but I can imagine it to be a beautiful place in the summer. But in the winter, no thanks!

We left the Pilots just after 5 o'clock and we were alone again. Bound for the spring time in Europe and this is something I look forward to. Sweden?
I don't mind if we end up in Malmö so we can buy some Skånsk sausage and chocolate. Yes, we remember Richard Mærsk and our adventure in Malmö. And of course, our chocolate meetings on the bridge in the evenings.

I was down for dinner, my last? Fruit and salad only from tomorrow? I reallyYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.sthope so. I went to the bridge to relieve 2nd Officer after dinner and I was soon drinking form my new tea cup forAladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskthe first time. I had been delirious with anticipation to try it out. And as I had expected, instant success.

We had a strong and cold wind coming fromYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stNW but as it came in from behind it was no rolling. And as we're moving towards spring weYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stexpect the weather to improve during the voyage back to Europe.

It was a nice evening with tea and our 4th Engineer joined us on the bridge and he entertained us with stories from the good ol' times and the time passed quickly and it was soon time to go on watch below. And we're looking forward to a new exciting day tomorrow. But first I need some sleep.

Saturday 14 th of March 2015
and they called me at 01:30. A hole on the steam line. I was soon asleep again and then they called me 20 minutes before 4 o'clock. A quick shower and I was on the bridge to relieve 2nd Officer 5 minutes before 4 o'clock.

I had a nice watch in the morning and I enjoyed 6 cups of tea in the dark. Well, at 7 o'clock theAladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maersksun was coming up in the East and it looks to be a nice day. OfYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stcourse, it will be cold.

We're steaming towards South East South of Newfoundland and we will change course to 090° in the middle of the night tomorrow and then we will soon reach the Golf stream and it willYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stsoon be much warmer.

I spent the morning with our gas detectors and the afternoon was spent in my cabin. I was

disappointed coming on the bridge at 4 o'clock in the afternoon.

I had have a long discussion with the guys and they had promised to hide all cookies and stuff on the bridge. Our 2nd Officer was very quick to rectify the cookie faux pas. He also handed me 2 different kinds of protractors to choose from. I hadAladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskcomplained about the two they were using when I joined the ship.

They were much worn and it was impossible to see the numbers and lines on them. Now I had two new protractors and no sign of any cookies on the bridge. The kettlewas whistling and I was in a good mood ready to take on my evening watch on the bridge. And on top of everything it was a gorgeous afternoon.

- What was that?
Looked like smoke and I thought it was a reflection of a cloud in the window. It was a huge whale blowing water just next to us. An hour later I was joined by brownish flippers jumping in front of us, yes, an excellent afternoon just South of Newfoundland.

and they called me 20 minutes before 4 in the morning, time for my morning watch. I had been sleeping since 10 and I had have a good sleep and no one have calledAladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskthis morning. So I was full of vim when I went for the shower.

I was soon on the bridge and the kettle was on when I came on the bridge and I was soon having a cup of tea in my hand.

It was pitch dark when i came on the bridge but we could see the sky lightening up in the east. I prepared the sight reduction tables and the Nautical Almanac. No clouds on the sky and I would most likely be ableAladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskto check our gyro compass error by the sun as soon as the sun came over the horizon.

So there was nothing much to do but to drink tea until 7 o'clock when the sun was above the horizon.

The AB removed the canvas protection from the gyro compass repeater just before 7 and I donned a winter parka I found on the bridge. Yes, it is darn cold. 4 minutes after 7 and I had the bearing to the sun. 94° and the true bearing from the tables and calculation was 94.5°. So the compass is OK.

Well, I'm not sure, when I booked my trip I might have slipped on the key board when they asked about my size regarding the Eskimo clothing.

I'm not sure about the size they think I wear at Grönlandsresor, but I hope I can wear the Eskimo clothes. I have my doubts, but I will really try to get serious with my diet. Eskimo clothing are a must to get the real Greenland feeling.

Monday 16 th of March 2015
and we had strong wind from East when I came on the bridge at 4 o'clock in the morning. The wind turned to South but it was still a force 8. But the wind changing to South means that we have passed the low pressure. Wind from East means that we're North of the low pressure and now we were East of it.

The wind decreased during the afternoon, but now we had heave swell and thus heavy rolling at times. It willYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.sthopefully be better tomorrow.

Tuesday 17 th of March 2015
and we are still rolling heavily, so there is not very much you can do.Aladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe MaerskWell, the crew are busy on deck removing cracked steam pipes that our Fitter is repairing in the workshop. And we have planned a few drills for today.

I had two cups of hot chocolate on the bridge during my morning watch. I was so tired I was about to fall asleep a few times. Rolling and it had been impossible to sleep during the night. But the time passed by slowly and the sun was soonAladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskcoming up, of cours, covered with clouds.

I had an hour of sleep after my watch and when I was back up again I started to prepare someYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stpaper work in my office. We will start in my office with a bomb search drill after the coffee break.

We did a few drills before we went to the bridge for the life boat muster. And our 2nd Officer will also take the opportunity to demonstrate our EEBD (Emergency Escape Breathing Device) Yeah, this promise to be exciting. He started by showing how to use the EEBD and then we had a few of the crew to try. This is what we call “hands on”

And when we were ready I took a picture of the whole crew on the bridge wing. We left the bridge and I just had time to finish the report before it was time for lunch. I skipped breakfastAladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskas I have oatmeal on the bridge. The plan is for me to have “half” a cup of oatmeal and I will thus be able to skip the breakfast.

But today I had a few cookies instead of the oatmeal. But tomorrow it will be oatmeal and no breakfast.

I was on the bridge at 4 for my afternoon watch and I was soon joined by an AB that was going to take a new video course. I have been working with him on board Roy Mærsk. Hetold me that he missed the group hugs. Well, he is on the 12 to 4 watch and he are thus not with usAladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskin the morning. But I told him to speak with Pumpy, maybe we can arrange something in the afternoon.

He did his video course while I enjoyed a cup of tea watching the crew working with our steam pipes on deck. The wind have increased, but there are still some heavy rolling at times. But not worse than I could enjoy my tea.

Well, time turned quickly and it was soon time to go back to my cabin. Not much to do, and I'm thinking about starting with the Learn Thai with Mod and the Alif Silpachai videos again. But not today!

and the wind was almost gone when I came on my morning watch.Aladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maersk15°C in the water and 13°C in the air. Still cloudy but it looked like it could be a beautiful day.

But the best thing, the rolling was down to almost nothing and I could really enjoy my tea and I had several cups

The bad thing, I had forgot to bring a tea spoon for my oatmeal so I had to have a few cookies with my tea as I was getting hungry. But I will make sure to have a tea spoon for tomorrow.

Time passed quickly and it was soon 8 o'clock and I went to bed for an hour before going to my office for some work. Meeting at 10 thirty and when we were ready I completed a video course.

Aladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maersk

Lunch time, I had two bowls of ice cream and I decided that I will start with my diet bet tomorrow. Our 2nd Officer is well familiarized with my diet bet from Roy Mærsk and he isAladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskdelirious with anticipation as he expect to get 1000 US Dollars catching me eating.

I printed my new diet bet and Captain came by to scrutiniseYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stthe document. He pointed out that it said Roy Mærsk at one place in the document. Well, I changed it to RomøYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stMærsk and we're good to go. V-shaped torso or bust. Well, at least I hope so. Well, it might take a wee bit ofYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stHocus-pocus and abracadabra, but I will finally make it there.Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stHopefully

Well, time to get serious, but I decided to have a last dinner so our 2nd Officer came to the bridge to relieve me and I went down to the mess room.

I put up my new “diet bet” on the bulk head and it was instantly attracting a lot of interest, yes, people really wanted to win the 1000 US Dollar. Next dinner is on Saturday and from now on it is once a week only. I finished my dinner and I returned to the bridge so our 2nd Officer could goAladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskfor his dinner.

I emptied the last content of a Milo can in to my tea cup. Can as well finish the Milo before the new dietYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.strules kicks in at midnight. I added milk powder and hot water.

I cannot say that I felt swell after the dinner, I only felt swollen. Well, the Milo did nothing to alleviate the feeling of having swell up. But this

will change during the upcoming days. The more I lose the better I willAladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskfeel with myself. Hungry of course, if you want to look good you have to suffer.

We have received orders to go to Bilbao in Spain to load, but still no loading orders. So we will see where we're going to discharge whatever we will load.

Well, 18°C and it is almost like a summer day on the bridge wing. So this promise good for the future, well, not signing off having to carry all the winter clothing backYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.sthome again. But I prefer to do that than to come back to Canada in the middle of the winter.

It will be interesting to see if we're going North or South after loading in Bilbao, Sweden and Denmark would be nice. But Rotterdam, Hamburg or Antwerp would be a pain in the behind. Anyway, time passed quickly and 2nd Officer was soon coming to take over on the bridge. And he brought a new tea pot.

Well, with a tea pot like that it was a waste of money to buy my new tea cup. So in order not to waste any money I will continue to use my new tea cup and thus no need for the pot.

Thursday 19 th of March 2015
and it was nice weather when I came on the bridge at 4 o'clock in the morning. Well, gloom and grey for as long we could see as soon as it was day light. But no wind and that is the most important. Time was pretty quick and it was soon 8 o'clock and time for bed.

I was in my office at 9 thirty and I started with the ballast exchange and I changed sensors and calibrated gas detectors, always busy. Bilbao was cancelled during the day and we changed cours for ARA for order. So we will see where we end up loading.

and we're still steaming towards North East when I came on the bridgeAladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskat 4 o'clock in the morning. I was soon having a cup of tea in my hand and I enjoyed the morning.

And it looked to be a gorgeous morning as we could see the stars on the sky. No clouds and we might see the sun today. And that was a long time ago. Well, I can't remember seeing the sun since I left Bangkok. Well, maybe for an hour all in all, but not more.

The wind was almost gone and just some weak swell so no rolling and thus a gorgeous morning. Pump Man and the Day men came to the bridge just after 6 o'clock. I handedAladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskout today's work orders and they were soon gone again. Time was really passing by quickly and it was soon 8 o'clock and time for my 2 slices of black bread with cheese in the mess room.

I completed the ballast exchange at 11:35 and now we have new ballast in the whole ship. Took us almost exactly 24 hours to change the ballast water. I started at 11:50 yesterday and we have been running the “FLOW THROUGH” non-stop since we started.

I finished with the FP using the “empty/ refill” technique. I made a mental note about the time consumption for the operation as this will be good to know in the future.

During the afternoon we got a new voyage, load VGO in the Baltic and most likely discharge in Antwerp. I was in a good mood, this was a nice voyage and we will be well in to April when we have discharged in Antwerp. Well, I would not mind if Antwerp was changed for something else.
Aladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maersk

Captain and Chief Engineer was on the bridge staring in to the ECDIS. They were discussing bunker and distances and of course I took the opportunity to have a picture.

We had fog during my watch and there was no time to enjoy myself. I had 2 cups of tea, but I could not relax as I had to monitor the radars all the time. But time was pretty quick and it was soon 8 o'clock and I was off to my cabin. And I was thinking about my Thai books on myYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stbed side table.

So far I have not open them, but I will try to get started with daily studies. I tried to open the books the other day but I felt asleep on top of the bed.

We could seeAladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskthe stars so we knew that the sky would be blue as soon as the sun would come up.

Time passed pretty quickly and I just finished my 5th bucket of tea and it was 8 o'clock. Saturday and I could enjoy my breakfast with fresh made breadYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stas the diet bet is on hold during Saturdays.

We have planned to have our last drills for the month after the 10 o'clock coffee break. Fire drill, oil spill drill and a MOB + recovery of person and we started with the fire drill.

We finished with the “recovering of person” drill and when we were ready it was almost time for lunch. And as it isYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stSaturday there are only a few “ off limits” at the table. And of course, I was over doing it.

So I will most likely do some changes to my diet bet. No more free Saturdays, only the Saturday dinner and no bread. So no more Saturday breakfasts and lunches.

And we will have a meeting at Captain's cabin at 11 o'clock for a pre “Safety Awareness Week” meeting with the Chief Engineer. Will there be cookies?

Time turned quick and it was soon 6 o'clock and our Pump Man and the day men came to the bridge. I told Pump Man to prepare ice water for 9 thirty when we were going to test our MMCs'. I went to sleep at 8 o'clock and I had a what we call a “POWER NAP” before going to meet Pump Man in my office where he had prepared all the MMCs'

We started by checking the thermometers with ice water and boiling water. Then we checked the conductivity and we were ready just in time for the meeting. And Captain was pottering about when I stepped in to his cabin. He was arranging cups and tea, NOTAladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe MaerskCOFFEE. Yeah this is how it is working with real men. No coffee in sight!

He had found a beer mug and he told me that it looked good to use for tea. I was happy and I turned a few cartwheels in his office before we started the meeting.

We discussed the up coming #8220;Safety Awareness Week” that will KICK OFF tomorrow at 10:15. We spent an hour with the pre-planning and not one cookie was eaten. Way above expectations, well, hmm, my 1000US Dollars fine for eating might have had something to do with it. Tea was of course drunk during the meeting. We completed the meeting 20 minutes before lunch and I went to do some paper work forAladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maersktomorrow. I was 10 minutes late for lunch, and that even though I was delirious with anticipation. Both a new tea cup and a new tea pot. This can turn out to be the best day ever on board a Mærsk ship, EVER!

Can't remember when I had a long sleep last time and as I expected the day to be a long one I had 2nd Officer to be on a normal 4 hour watch and I could sleep to 04:40 GMT.

It was soon 8 o'clock and I went to my office to prepare enclosed space entry permit as we were going to check the gas detectors in the pump room. Pump Man also have the monthly movement of the manual valves to do in the pump room.

We finished just in time for the Safety Awareness Week KICK OFF in the duty mess. Captain had prepared everything and the crew was sitting there watching Captain's risk assessment posters.

We finished the first day of the Safety Awareness Week and we have covered toolbox meeting and risk assessment. Well, it was soon time for me to go on my afternoon watch on the bridge. Yet anotherAladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskday when I'm tired. Well, times is for sure not slow when you're busy.

Well, I will have to drink a lot of tea on the bridge while we're approaching the English Channel leaving the Northern Atlantic behind us steaming towards the Baltic Sea where we will load.

We have got theAladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskfixture, but still nothing about the load port or cargo. But we know that we will pass the Great Belt on our way to load VGO in the Baltic Sea. Maybe in the Gulf of Finland.

I only wish for the weather will become awee bit warmer. Europe and they had summer in February withSpring timeLadybugs and flowers so I hadAladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe MaerskexpectedAladdin's adventure on board M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskmore than 9°C here in March. Hell, it is end of March and April is only a few days away.

Well, we might run in to the summer soon. I really hopeYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stso as the weather have been nothing but a disappointment so far.

I went to the bridge at 4 o'clock in the afternoon and I was soon drinking tea. Suddenly we had plenty of Dolphins swimming around us and I managed to get a few pictures.

Otherwise there wasn't much exciting happening in the evening, but time turned quick and I was soon back in my cabin. I spent the evening yesterday looking for cruises on the Amazon River on the internet.

But today I'm tired and I'm straight off to bed. Tomorrow morningand we will be in the English Channel. Have the spring arrived by then?

Well, we will find out soon enough. And you will soon know just by clicking HERE and you will soon find yourself in the middle of that adventure
