Thursday 1stof February 2018and yet another day when we could do nothing on deck. Purging the cargo tanks in progress and I expect us to be ready early tomorrow morning, or very late tonight.
+++++++++++++++
Friday 2ndof February 2018and we spent yet another day at the anchorage waiting. Still no news about any berthing.
+++++++++++++++
Saturday 3rdof February 2018and after a full day on the anchorage we never expected to come alongside. But at 8 o'clock they asked us to be at the pilot station at 23:00.
+++++++++++++++
Sunday 4thof February 2018and 23:00 turned in to 03:00 before the pilot was on board. 2 hours later and we were moored. Start loading 12 minutes after 9 and I could go to bed expecting us to be ready late tonight.
I was out of bed at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. In the CCR I discovered that we only loaded with 400m3/h so we will not leave here until Tuesday.
+++++++++++++++
Monday 5thof February 2018and we spent the whole day loading. Slow loading and it looks like we will not be ready until late tomorrow night.
+++++++++++++++
Tuesday 6thof February 2018and the loading rate is now down to 250m3/h from the initial 400m3/h. And they told me that they could give 2000m3/h. Our calculations, ready at midnight if they manage to keep the rate. Terminal say 15:00 and I asked if they would load us short. - Don't worry, you will get everything
I had just left the CCR when they called me in my cabin. They had stopped loading and they didn't had any more cargo for us. Yeah. Let's leave Jeddah! We were about 6000 barrels short from the 120 000 and we had been loading for 61 and a half hour.
+++++++++++++++
Wednesday 7thof February 2018and the pilot came on board quarter past 3 in the morning and I was in bed at 4 thirty. Suez, two days away and I started to change the ballast water in the FP at 11 thirty. So we had stuff to do, enough to kill the day.
+++++++++++++++
Thursday 8thof February 2018and we're closing in on Suez. We will not make it to the dead line 23:00 so we will have to take the north bound convoy leaving early morning on the 10th of February. Well, maybe I can do my first day of bird watching on the 12th.
+++++++++++++++
Friday 9thof February 2018and we dropped anchor 20 minutes after 5 o'clock in the morning. We will change anchor position after 8 o'clock and we will get water, provision and a garbage barge after lunch. Well, the garbage barge was in time, the water arrived at 4 in the afternoon and by then there were still no news about the provision.
+++++++++++++++
Saturday 10thof February 2018and my alarm went off at 05:40. I little bit of “snoozing” and I was out of bed at 6 o'clock. I went up on the bridge at 7 when I had finished my tea. Foggy and we had not yet reached the Canal so I went back down to my cabin. We were busy preparing for arrival, 16 jour from Port Said to Limassol. So I was pleasantly surprised when I spoke with the Pilot during breakfast.
They have built a new Canal for the north bound convoy, so no need to wait in the Great Bitter Lake and we will be in Port Said in 10 hours. Around 5 thirty in the afternoon and we will make it to Limassol before lunch time. And that means that we can get the fenders and start the STS before darkness. And that means that I can sign off tomorrow.
I went up on the bridge to check things out when we passed Suez. I had a few pictures before I returned to deck. Still plenty to do but not much time.

Yes, even though I had a lot to do I went to the bridge at 12 o'clock. I will be supporting the Pilot and the 2nd Officer in case something happening. We were in the new Canal, just been opening fora wee bit more than 2 years. So it was the first time for me. And it was kind of boring, just sand to watch. But I killed time talking with the Pilot.

New Ismailia city
Ismailia, I have passed the city when going through the Sue Canal. But the new Canal for the northbound convoy bypass Ismailia. But the Pilot told me that they have built a “NEW” Ismaïlia. Two new tunnels under the two canals between “NEW” Ismaïlia and “OLD” Ismaïlia
The Suez Canal Corridor Area Project
(Arabic: مشروع تطوير محور قناة السويس) is a mega project in Egypt that was launched on 5 August 2014 by president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The project's aim is to increase the role of the Suez Canal region in international trading and to develop the three canal cities: Suez, Ismailia, and Port Said.
The project involves building a new city (new Ismailia city), an industrial zone, fish farms, completing the technology valley, building seven new tunnels between Sinai and Ismailia and Port Said, improving five existing ports, and digging a new canal parallel to the Suez Canal. The new canal will increase the canal capacity by allowing ships to sail into both directions at the same time for a greater proportion of the canal. The project will transfer the canal cities into an important trading center globally. It will also build new centers on the Suez Canal for logistic and ship services.
Abdel Fattah el-Sisi announced that the new Suez Canal project will operate after a year (instead of three years). The project's authority said that the revenues of the canal will increase from 5 billion dollars to 12.5 billion dollars yearly. The new Suez Canal and the seven tunnels are under construction simultaneously. Construction of the rest of the projects (which include building the city, industrial zone, technology valley, and fish farms) will begin in February 2015.
The project is also known as "The Great Egyptian Dream" because it will help the economy of Egypt reheal after many years of unrest and corruption.
The Egyptian Armed Forces participate in the project by helping in designing and digging the canal and the tunnels. It also protects the project's location from terrorists in Sinai.

New Ismailia city and they will not start to sell the houses until everything is ready. Well, by the looks of it it will be quite some time before it is ready for moving in. We passed New Ismailia cityand it was time to change pilot.
And from there it is about 4 and a half hour to Port Said and the Mediterranean. And from there it is 16 hours to Limassol OPL, and about 24 hours to a Pepsi MAX in my hotel room.
OH YEAH! I have a little something to look forward to. Earl Grey Tea and Pepsi MAX. And of course, I have booked 3 days of bird watching on Cyprus, so it will be fun.
The new Canal was sucking balls, but as soon as we were back in the old Canal there were things to look at and the time passed quickly.
We were approaching the end of the new Canal and we could see the Mubarak Peace Bridge over the Suez Canal. The bridge is just south of the city El Qantara. So there was a little to look at while passing El Qantara. Ferries and even a train so this was kind of exciting, at least after having spent all the time looking at sand.

We arrived to Port Said around 5 in the afternoon. Time to leave the electrician and the boat men behind. We must have a boat and crew on board during the passage. We keep the boat on deck and we lower it to the water with the crew in the boat.
We leave the Pilot and we got some provision delivered, well, I can have a cup of tea with milk for dinner. We have not had have any milk for a long time now. No provision since I joined, 3 months ago. Well, my last day on board and I can have tea with milk.

Sunday 11thof February 2018and was it the last day I woke up to when my alarm went off 20 minutes before 5 in the morning? I hope so, we willhopefully have the vetting today and I will come back ashore with the Vetting Inspector.
Well, drinking my tea and I studied the e-mails. Weather is not suitable for any STS operation and it is not looking better until Wednesday.

Monday 12thof February 2018and I started the day by doing 4 work permits. We were busy with the last one, entry permit when we got the news that we might go closer to shore to get the new crew on board. That means that I can leave in the afternoon. Captain asked how long time I needed to be ready to sign off. - 3 minutes He asked my reliever if he was ready to take over. Our 2nd Officer will take over when I leave and he have been training on board the last few weeks.
The service boat would leave port at 13:00 and I expected the boat to be here at 1 thirty. Well, at 2 o'clock they still had an hour to go. I had booked my hotel, Ajax Hotel in Limassol and I sent the confirmation to my Birding Guide. I have been very uncertain with the dates, but today I could confirm birding on the 13+14+15th of February. 450€ for 3 days and i will fly home on Friday,Hopefully being able to make it to Kathmandu on the 18th.
Anyway, 3 happy off signers when we could finally see the very slow and small service boat approaching. 6 on signers, the last two arrived to Cyprus today as they had missed the connection flight. 3 crew members coming on the same flight and 2 of them miss the connection flight in Dubai. But now they are here and we can go home.

It was very cold and windy on deck. I have my boiler suit and I might need to wear it during the birding tours. I had expected it to be warmer. Anyway, we lifted on board the on signers luggage and then the service boat moved to our ladder and the new crew could get on board.
When all 6 of them were on board I went down the ladder, first off so I can take some pictures from the service boat when the other two climbs down. Everything for some pictures. I stepped down in the service boat and I went back trying to get a good view of the Motorman and Engineer when they came down to the service boat.
