Day 7: Corbett
Early morning you go for Elephant / Jeep Safari inside the park. Later return to the hotel for breakfast. After rest and relaxation in the afternoon opt for jeep safari to the Bijrani area of Corbett to find the Elusive Tiger - now the cynosure of the questing eye. Then return to the hotel. Evening is free for leisure and relaxation. Dinner and overnight at the jungle resort.
Monday 11 th of January 2016 and DARN! They called me at 5 thirty and I didn't jumped out of
my bed, neither did I turned cartwheels. The only thing getting me out of bed as the safari.No breakfast until we were back from the safari, so it was a shower and to get dresses in my safari uniform. And it was cold, there is a radiator in my room
but it was not quite enough to heat the room. And to come out of the hot shower was not a nice experience.Pain in the behind to get out of bed and I'm really getting to old for this. Maybe my last trip, thinking about skipping Amazonas and the South Pole.
Well, we will see because as soon as the game drive start it is fantastic and worth the suffering and pain to get in to the park. The jeep was waiting for me
and I took the seat in the back of the Gypsy jeep.We had to stop after a few minutes as it was too cold to sit in the back. In the car the heating was running and it was nice to get inside. I made a mental note to bring a blanket for the safari early tomorrow morning.
The entry gate Amdanda, the gate to the Bijrani Zone is just 5 to 10 minutes away from the Corbett Riverside Resort. But the firs safari will be in the Jhirna Zone and we have to enter through the
Dhela gate. The Dhela gate is 17 km from the hotel so, well, 17 km in India is at least 30 minutes of driving.And 30 minutes in the
temperature would have killed me so I was better up front behind the
wind shield and the heater.So my first safari in Jim Corbett Park will be in the Jhirna Zone. Then it will be a afternoon safari in the Bijrani Zone. Tomorrow morning we will have a safari
in the Dhikala Zone and the three remaining safaris in the Bijrani Zone.So this is my program for my three days of safari at Jim Corbett. And I'm pretty excited, if it wasn't for the early morning. But you have to take the bad with the good.
My Driver took my passport and he went to register us at the gate and he had a Guide with him when he returned. We entered the Jhirna Zone. I spotted 2 new birds that I had never seen before and you can find some of the pictures from the safari below.

I have had most help from my friend, the bird pal I met at Suan Rot Fai. Sending pictures of birds I have not been able to identify to him via Line. 3 minutes later he and he have managed to identify most of the birds I have had problems with. THANKS! And my new aid, maybe, and I say maybe the best aid. I brought my mobile phone as my SIM card have stopped working and I tried to get it to work again so I can use the internet. Thus I had my phone in my pocket on my first game drive in Jim Corbett National Park.
We saw a bird and I asked my Guide and the driver if they had a pen and a paper as I had forgot my pen and paper in my room. I remembered my LG phone and I recorded the name. And thus I will always bring my phone. Writing the name in the car and I have found more than once that it can be hard to read what I had wrote when I'm back in my room.
So now I always have my mobile in my pocket and it has been a great help.

We were back at the gate and it had been a gorgeous morning even though we had not seen any
tigers. I asked the driver to stop at a Indian “styled” mini mart on the way back to Corbett River Side ResortI need tooth paste and maybe some biscuits to munch on in the morning as we don't have breakfast before I leave for my safaris. He showed me the tooth paste and I checked the expiry date carefully. I will brush my teeth as soon as I'm back in my
room as I didn't found my tooth paste this
very morning.Same with the biscuits, I found some HEALTHY oatmeal biscuits but they had expired a long time ago. I looked at some Oatmeal Digestive and they had not expired.
I bought 4 small packs before we returned to the hotel. I looked at my pictures from the morning safari. I didn't had time for much else before it was time to go for lunch. Tea, onion omelette and toast
and while waiting I went outside to look for birds in the Kosi River outside the restaurant.I finished my lunch and while walking back to my room to get my safari helmet I spotted a White-browed Wagtail and one beautiful Common Tailorbird.
So the lunch break gave me four beautiful birds, two of them in a beautiful setting in the Kosi River:
1) Pied Kingfisher
2) Little Egret
3) White-browed Wagtail
4) Common Tailorbird
So the day had started very good, a few new birds this morning and a beautiful landscape. I went to get my safari helmet in my room and I went to the reception where the Jeep is waiting for me.

We took off at 13:30 and I had brought the blanket, but now it was kind of nice to sit in the
back and I never needed the blanket. Better safe
than sorry, you never know when you find use for a blanket.We went to town to fill up diesel before we went to the Entry gate Amdanda to the Bijrani Zone. There were a few jeeps at the gate when we arrived. There were people with binoculars that you could rent for 100 Rupees.
No need for me to rent as I have my camera, but the girl in the jeep in front of me had a binocular and she was looking at me. I took up my camera but then she removed the binocular.
She was happy and it is always fun to see happy children. And children should always be happy, well, not when they are told not to eat too much candy. But they should be happy because when they grow up they will have enough of problems.
My Driver was soon back with my passport and a Guide. We entered the Bijrani Zone and I was excited. We passed a small village with houses built of hay and cow dung. Below are some of the pictures I took during the afternoon safari.

We were playing hide and seek with a tiger. Barking Deer and Spotted Deer were screaming warnings so there was a tiger in the vicinity. It was kind of exciting but time passed very quickly and we had to drive full speed back to the gate before they close.
So far no tiger but we will try again tomorrow and you just need to click HERE to find out if we're get any luck.
