Day 15: Ranthambhore

Today morning after breakfast, you can go for Jungle Safari or Kachida Valley, You will love the valley at first sight. It is located on the border of Ranthambore National Park. Leopards avoid the thick inner forest owing to the domination of tigers. You could have a great time going Jeep Safari and viewing various wild animals including dear, wild boar and sloth bear. Overnight at jungle resort.

Tuesday 19 th of January 2016 and it felt like I had been going through some heave exercise when I woke up. I was soar after the safari at ZONE 3 yesterday. It was a terrible road.Tiger safari in Ranthambhore tiger reserveBut I was happy to discover that it wasn't cold when I woke up. Yesterday it was very hard to getIce cold at Ranthambhoneout of bed because it was so cold in the room.

A shower and a few sips from a bottle of Mango juice and I was at the jeep 7 o'clock and we were soon on our way towards the Sherpur Gate and the Ranthambhore tiger reserve. We will drive around in ZONE 5 today. We arrived to the gate just before 7 thirty and there were a jeep waiting outside the gate while the Guide was to register.

My Guide went to register us and we were soon on our way. I told the driver to drive slowly and some of the pictures from today are found below.

We reached a man made dam and by then I was about to punch my Driver and Guide. They were talking non-stop with each other and after like 10 “please, can we be quiet so we can enjoy the nature” I want to listen to the birds and animals, for sure, I didn't wanted to listen to these two. They just didn't understand and they went on and on.
- SHUT UP THE FOOCK UP!!!

Finally, they were shutting up, for a while. We reached the old man made dam and there were some beautiful birds. We went out of the jeep and I walked down to the water and the Guide followed me chatting on and on
- LEAVE ME ALONE!!!

The Driver, the twat was walking around looking for signal for his phone and I could hear him screaming HELLO HELLO HELLO non foocking stop. Another jeep arrived and suddenly there were a whole bunch of the screaming and I lost it.

I was far away but their screaming could be heard all over the tiger reserve. I screamed at them:
- Is it impossible to be quiet for three hours while we are in the park so we can enjoy the sounds from the nature? What are you doing here? You could as well sit on a street in Bombay!

They had destroyed the feeling at the dam and I told my Driver and Guide that I wanted to leave. I have been on a few safaris in my days, but these two are the worst I have ever experienced. I was mentioned that all the Guides I have ever met loved the nature. But in Ramthanbhore I never met anyone caring for the nature.

At the Sherpur Gate, the gate to the park from the main road there are many “Business men” selling t-shirts, books and souvenirs. And they don't understand “no thanks” and they go on and on while they surround you holding up their stuff for display.

And to have both a Driver and a Guide is not good around here, they just talk with each other. In Africa they only had a Driver that was also the Guide. And they knew all the animals and trees.

So if you want to go for a safari in India, stay well clear of Ranthambhore even though it is a beautiful park.

Among others I have used Peter Ericsson's web page Birds of Thailand These galleries contain 668 species of the Birds of Thailand and have been of a great help to identify some of the birds as the birds in Thailand and India are, well, many of them are the same.

I have had most help from my friend, the bird pal I met at Suan Rot Fai. Sending pictures of birds I have not been able to identify to him via Line. 3 minutes later he and he have managed to identify most of the birds I have had problems with. THANKS! Visit his web page m☥lever for his beautiful pictures.

And my new aid, maybe, and I say maybe the best aid. I brought my mobile phone as my SIM card have stopped working and I tried to get it to work again so I can use the internet. Thus I had my phone in my pocket on my first game drive in Jim Corbett National Park.

We saw a bird and I asked my Guide and the driver if they had a pen and a paper as I had forgot my pen and paper in my room. I remembered my LG phone and I recorded the name. And thus I will always bring my phone. Writing the name in the car and I have found more than once that it can be hard to read what I had wrote when I'm back in my room.

So now I always have my mobile in my pocket and it has been a great help.

Of course, all bird pictures available on my Indian
bird checklist of bird I have seen by clicking HERE

Of course, I have seen many many more, but this list is for birds I managed to get on picture

Some of the pictures are OK, and some of them are straight up in a very poor quality

We pass the man made dam when we're going back and now I discovered 2 crocodiles. I ask them to stop so I can have a look at the crocodiles
- Please stop! Crocodiles!
- Where? The Guide ask
- There! Bozo!
- HEY LOOK! CROCODILES!

I just looked at him, the worst Guide I have ever had on any safari. Fighting Deer, Sloth Bear and now crocodiles and I have had to ask them to stop as they had not seen anything. Well, anyway, we drove back to the hotel and I had some naan and tea. I have about 3 hours to kill before it is time to leave for the afternoon safari.

I spend the time waiting looking at pictures and up-dating my web page. Two o'clock and I went to the reception and no sign of the jeep when it was two o'clock. The jeep arrived 15 minutes late and I can't say that I was surprised as I had understood that Ranthambhore is nothing like the other safaris I have been to.

We left Abrar Palace and I was soon learning that we would go back to ZONE 1. That is the same ZONE I did yesterday afternoon. A very bad dirt track, and I had already seen this zone.

Ranthambhore, I'm on 4 safaris here and the send me 2 times to the same zone. I will never come back here again. We stopped at the ruin pond on the way to the gate. Now the snakes were out from their homes between the rocks again

We stopped in the dirt track as we heard a monkey giving alarm. Tiger or Leopard nearby. When the monkey is screaming he see a tiger or leopard. When the monkey is screaming higher it means that the tiger/ leopard is moving. We could hear when the tiger/ leopard was moving. Was he moving in our direction? Impossible to say so we had to wait and see.

We could hear the monkey but we gave up after a while as we couldn't see anything. So the cat have most likely moved up the mountain. We continued our game drive and we were soon back at the pond where I saw the Grey Heron and Painted Stork yesterday.

The Grey Heron and the Painted Stork was at the pond today together with 4 Pond Herons. The Pond Egret and the Grey Heron was scared for the Painted Stork. The Painted stork walked around the pond looking for fish and as soon as he came close to any of the Pond Egrets the flew away

Well, my last safari in Ramthanbhore have come to an end. I had enjoyed the safari even though my Guide didn't know very much. I asked about the name of the snake.
- It is a water snake
- Yeah, but what is the name
- I don't know

I asked him about a bird and he didn't know. He did not even know the colour of the third parakeet. He thought it was red or blue. And there is 4 different Kingfishers in the park, I have seen 3 and I asked about the name on the fourth Kingfisher and he drew a blank.

But I must give it to the Driver, 20 minutes later he remembered the name, Stork Billed Kingfisher. I was not impressed and I pay extra for a Guide and as a foreigner I pay much more than the Indian tourists. The whole country is a scam.

Well, we're off to Agra tomorrow morning and I'm looking forward to yet another road trip on the Indian highways. It is a short trip so it will be interesting. To find out what we encountered on the highway you just need to click HERE

OK, it has come to my knowledge that we have senior citizens visiting my web page. How hard can it be? So it's not very easy for them to see the blue coloured links to the next page.
