OK, it has come to my knowledge that we have senior citizens visiting my web page. How hard can it be? So it's not very easy for them to see the blue coloured links to the next page.

Friday 2 ^nd of December 2016 and they knocked, wee, there is a door bell. Anyway, they were at my door at 06:00 and they had brought a tray with tea. And even though I was dead tired it didn't take long to discover that they had brought green tea instead of Earl Grey tea. And no milk, never mind. I was going to enjoy my “green” tea.

I sat down at the table and I should pour me a cuppa and instantly, I was furious and my morning was destroyed. The tea pot was hot like boiling water. As soon as I grabbed the pot I threw it away. What the duck?

This was for sure not what I had planned when I asked for a pot of tea with my wake up call yesterday. Well, I was soon down in the restaurant for a breakfast, and as yesterday, it was a very good breakfast and nice and friendly staff.

I packed my bag when I was ready with my breakfast and I went down to check out from the hotel. The Park Kolkata, a recommended hotel if you ever come to Calcutta. OK, you will have to bring your ow Pepsi MAX, but apart from that I had a very good stay.

My new friends arrived so we left The Park Kolkata hotel exactly at 07:45 as we had agreed on yesterday, Sweden style. Well, at least what used to be Sweden style before everything went down the drain with that country. Next stop Gadkhali, Gateway to Sundarbans in 3 hours or so. We will take a boat from Gadkhali to Sundarbans and our hotel.

Sundarban Riverside Holiday Resort about an hour or so from Gadkhali. So we will make a cruise to the hotel and we can look for birds on the way.

Hindustan Ambassador - The only car I could actually like to have back home

I like the Hindustan Ambassador and I would like to have one of those, well, actually not, no car is the best. But if I had to chose a car it would have been a 6000 US $ Hindustan Ambassador. They are actually banned all over India today, only allowed to drive in Calcutta.

Back in the day when I was in India there were only 2 kind of taxis, the Hindustan Ambassador and the Premier Padmini. And today I only see the Hindustan Ambassador in Calcutta.

Premier Padmini

Premier Padmini was an automobile manufactured in India from 1964 to 2000, although the"Padmini" name was not used until 1967 - the earlier cars were sold as the "Fiat 1100 Delight".

The car is popularly called "Fiat". Premier Automobiles Limited, the erstwhile flagship company of India's Walchand group, assembled Fiat's 1100-series cars from the 1950s until 1997. Within the very limited Indian market, and especially in comparison with its main competitor the Hindustan Ambassador, the Padmini was considered quitesporting.

Premier manufactured it at their Kurla, Mumbai plant until they sold a majority stake to Fiat Spa in September 1997.

First sold as the Fiat 1100 Delight, the 1100D was preceded in the Indian market by the Fiat 1100-103. It was also briefly sold as the Premier President (only for the 1973 model year) until it finally settled down as the Premier Padmini.

Hindustan Ambassador

I could not see any Hindustan Ambassador in Bombay back in 2012. I saw a few white paintedHindustan Ambassador in Bombay. One driver told me that they were gone from the streets in Bombay.

The Hindustan Ambassador is a car manufactured by Hindustan Motors of India. It has been in production since 1958 with few modifications or changes and is based on the Morris Oxford III model, first made by the Morris Motors Limited at Cowley, Oxford in the United Kingdom from 1956 to 1959.

Sale of Ambassador taxis had been banned since April 1, 2011, a year after BS IV normswere rolled out in 11 Indian cities, including Kolkata.
Bharat stage emission standards are emission standards instituted by the Government of India to regulate the output of air pollutants from internal combustion engine equipment, including motor vehicles.

The standards and the timeline for implementation are set by the Central Pollution Control Board under the Ministry of Environment & Forests.

At present the company is in an extremely challenging situation with plummeting sales andloss of ₨ 29.96 crore (approx. US$5.6 million as of October 2012) in 2011-12.The company could only sell around 2500 cars in 2011.

Despite its British origins, the Ambassador is considered as a definitive Indian car and is fondly called “The dinosaur on Indian roads”. The automobile is manufactured by Hindustan Motors at its Uttarpara plant near Kolkata, West Bengal. Some prominent Indian politicians, such as Sonia Gandhi, use the Hindustan Ambassador.

We ran in to a bit of traffic when we left the hotel but the traffic got lighter when we had left the school area behind. Calcutta, one of the biggest cities and Sundarbans, a major tourist area and the road from Calcutta to Sundarbans, well, I call it a dust path.

It took us about 2 and a half hour to get to the “Gateway to Sundarbans” and it don't take much to realize that we made a pathetic average speed coming here. Left Calcutta at 07:45 and we got out of the car at 10:15. Our luggage was on board and we were ready to leave shore behind to go look for tigers. Click HERE to find out if we spotted any tigers.
