Sunday 29thof October 2017and the driver dropped me at the war museum/ memorial at the Auckland Domain. I got out of the car and I started to walk towards the trees and pond on the NW side of the museum. I passed the pond and I was soon discovering an opening in the bushes. There was a walk path in to the forest and I was soon having two New Zealand Fantails in the tree next to me. I got a few pictures before I continued on the walk path.

Walking along the Lover's Walk and you will end up at the Duck Pond. And as the name suggest, there are Ducks in the area. There are bathrooms and a cafe with snacks. A beautiful area as all the other parks I have been to in New Zealand. Pigeons and Ducks, but I had come here for more exciting birds so I started to walk around the pond looking for birds.
I also took the time to help people with selfies. And there was a family from India. They were taking pictures of the gooses. A goose is a cute bird and they asked their daughter, maybe 2 years to go stand next to the goose. A goose is like a swan, have a very strong bill and they can easily get angry, very angry.
If you have ever thought about getting a GUARD DOG, consider to get a goose. They will not be distracted by a sausage and they will detect any one trying to get in to their territory.
Anyway, it would be no problem for the goose to bite of a finger or to seriously injury their daughter that looked to be around 2 years old. I gave them a friendly tip and the parents look choked and grateful at the same time. They looked at the goose. - They look so cute!
They took the pictures of their daughter and the gooses, but now they kept their daughter at a save distance. Good, they can enjoy their holiday without having to bring their daughter to the emergency ward because of an angry goose.

I look for the Greenfinch and the Goldfinch while walking around the pond. I play my finch sounds but nothing. I see a few Silvereyes in the bushes. I try to play the Common Chaffinch song. BOOM! I have a Chaffinch flying around me, hoovering in front of my face looking for his friend.
The bird was so close I could not get any pictures at times. The Common Chaffinch is a really beautiful bird and I was very happy to come up close to the bird. And it was very fun to watch the Common Chaffinch.

A bird with attitude
Common Chaffinch, I had many beautiful pictures that turned out as the above picture. And only of the Chaffinch. Yes, I was happy to discover this
I had managed to get a whole lot of pictures. But coming home trying to edit the pictures there was something wrong with them. I can see the pictures normally on the computer, but trying to open them in a photo editing program and they fail.
Anyway, I didn't know about the problems when I was walking around the Duck Pond and I was happy for the Chaffinch pictures. I never got any pictures of the Silvereye. I looked up one of the trees and I spotted two Eastern Rosellas. I got a few poor pictures before they escaped.

I walked around looking for the rosellas and I discovered the birds eating on the lawn between the cafe and the Duck Pond. And it is not easy to sneak up on the birds. As soon as they see any movements they take off. Thanks to my Commando background? I managed to come pretty close and I got a few pictures before the bird took off to hide/ eat in a tree.
Walking around in the parks in New Zealand and it is very comfortable weather. Not like in Bangkok that you wish you were back home after 30 minutes in the heat. After 3 hours here you're ready to take on another 3 hours. But now it was getting late and the sun will soon disappear. So I started to walk towards the city centre.

I walked down the road I had come up on in the taxi. I discover a walk path in to the forest North of the Auckland Domain. And after the experience on the Lover's Walk on the path earlier on I decided to get in there to see if I could see any birds.
I never saw any birds, but it was a beautiful walk. But I was lucky to hear a Sacred Kingfisher when I came down towards the main road. I had already booked an UBER car so I didn't had much time to get any pictures. I also decided to try to make a sound recording of the bird with my phone. Reminded me about that I had been thinking about buying a sound recorder as my phone leaves a lot to wish for.

My Guide from Wrybill Birding Tours will come to pick me up at 8 o'clock tomorrow morning and we will drive up to the Northland to look for Kiwis in the evening. So I'm a little excited about this. I rally hopethat we have better luck than in the Tawharanui Regional Park on the Tawharanui Peninsula. But I must say that that didn't feel very professional. So I have high hopes for tomorrow night. ClickHEREto find out how it goes.
