Swimming with humpback whales on Vava'u, Tonga

OK, it has come to my knowledge that we have senior citizens visiting my web page. How hard can it be? So it's not very easy for them to see the blue coloured links to the next page.

Wednesday 4 ^th of October 2017 and my alarm went off at 5. We left Vava'u Villa quarter to 7 and today I had brought my own lunch that they had prepared yesterday. I had had my breakfastin my room, oatmeal. I had bought a beer mug in town and now I use it for tea. I have also bought a tea mug for my oatmeal.

Well, lucky me, I had already had my breakfast when I run in to the appetizer in the restaurant, a doggy poo.

I just filled my water bottle for the boat tour and I went straight out on the street to wait for the taxi. The rest of the team was ready but we were worried about the weather, quite windy. And it had been raining when I woke up. So the conditions was not the best for us.

No luck for me and I put my hopes for the afternoon. We had lunch anchored of a beach and I had a very quick swim as the water was very cold. We stayed here until it was our turn to swim with a male whale sleeping in the water. He will stay in the water for 15 minutes or so sleeping and when he needs air he just float to the surface and breath before sinking down again.

Don't sound very exciting, but the whale comes up very slow and if you're lucky you get a good picture of the whale. We get in to the water when the whale is up breathing and we wait for the whale to come up again and then it is the next boat's turn to have a look.

We had dinner at Bella Vista in the evening

The pictures turned out to be nothing but shit. And all the money I have spent on under water equipment and training trips. I was very disappointed with the pictures, but I had seen the Humpback whales and they are beautiful in the water. BUT WHAT AN EMBARRASMENT THE PICTURES HAVE TURNED OUT TO BE!!!

We got out of the water and we returned to Neiafu and the van to Vava'u Villa. I will go look for birds around the hotel as they had told me that they had the beautiful Blue-crowned Lorikeet behind the staff house.

I never saw any Blue-crowned Lorikeet, or any other birds for that matter. So back to my room and to bed early and tomorrow we will do it all over again. Click HERE to find out if we got to swim with any humpback whales.
