Tuesday 26 th of July 2016 and I was at the hotel around 10 o'clock. My room wasn't ready so I decided to go for a walk having a look at town. I wanted to find the famous house I always thinkAurora Alice Springsabout when Alice Springs is mentioned. The house in the corner, looking like a cowboy town house.

I just got out from my hotel when I saw a huge pink bird flying by. I followed the birdBirding in Alice Springsacross the street and it was a pink and grey/ white Galah cockatoo flying by.

I was soon to discover that the area was full of them. A little later I discovered the blue and green Australian Ringneck. And the town are full of them as well.

I also spotted a Yellow-throated miners and Crested pigeons, all this next to a dry river acrossBirding/ bird watching in Alice Springsthe street from the hotel. And 2 hours passed very quickly.

I walked around enjoying myself in the park looking at all the birds. It was fantastic when I saw the first pink and grey/ white Galah cockatoo flying by.

I thought I had experienced something really unique, but I was soon to discover that the park was full of them.

Actually, I was soon to discover that the parrots were all over town, and there were plenty ofBirding/ bird watching in Alice Springsthem. And I enjoyed every minute. I saw the little Yellow-throated miner chasing the parrots, both the Australian Ringneck and the Galah cockatoo. The parrots are muchAlice Springsbigger than the Yellow-throated miner so it looked very funny when the Yellow-throated miner was flying after the parrots screaming at them.

And the bird sounded very angry so maybe the parrots were building nest too close to the Yellow-throated miner's nests. I could see that both the Australian Ringneck and the Galah cockatoo were busy with their nests in the trees.

Maybe they are preparing for having babies, I think it is too cold to have their babies now, but itAlice Springswill soon get hot around here. Anyway, I came to a bridge and a walk bridge crossing the dry river. But it wasobvious that the bridges could come under water during the rainy season.

Booms to close the car bridge and a ruler showing the depth of the water above the bridge. And as we can see the rulers measure up to 2 meter.

And we know from the Jim Jim FallsYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stthat a dry gorge can become a violent river so it falls a lot of rain here during the wet season.

I spotted 4 new birds that I had never seen before while waiting for my room

I went back to Aurora Alice Springs to see if my room was ready, it was not.
Angry smiley in Alice Springs- WHAT THE DUCK!!!!

I went to explore the town. I had not manage to find the old cowboy house and by the looks of it, there was no old cowboy houses in town. And the old cowboy house was the reason for me to comeAlice Springsspend time here in Alice Springs. I came to a playground and there was a yellow house looking like the house. So this must be it.

And I was disappointed, there were cars and traffic lights and all kind of modern things. I hadexpected Crocodile Dudes, cowboys, horses and wagons, saloons and adventures.

Well, there was a Tavern and I asked the guy working there is this was the famous house. He didn't had a clue what I was talking about.

I explained and I asked how old this house was. He looked on the wall where it said Est. 1959. I suggested that that might be when the Tavern was established. They house must be several hundred years old. He looked at me and he looked puzzled.
- Hmm, you might be right
I said thank you and left going to look for a place where I could have breakfast.

Alice Springs
Is this the house? Where are Crocodile Dude and the cowboys?

I found an “ALL DAY BREAKFAST” place and I had egg & bacon with a pot of tea. I was full of vim after the breakfast and I went to look for a supermarket to buy bread, smoked salmon andBreakfast in Alice Springsdiet drinks for tomorrows breakfast. They will come to pick me up at 06:35 so no time for breakfast in the hotel restaurant.

Well, I'm better off with smoked salmon in my cabin. But this “getting out of bed” at 4 or 5 o'clock in the morning every day is not what I call to have a holiday. For sure, my next holiday and I will stay home in Bangkok relaxing for a full 10 weeks

Alice Springs
I could see the desert and wilderness from the supermarket

I walked, well, while waiting for my room and I realised that by walking around Alice Spring for 20 minutes you had covered the whole town. I could see the desert and wilderness from the supermarket so no need to run around town looking at the sights, this was done already.

I brought my supplies back to the hotel and now my room was ready. I started by enjoying a diet drink and I relaxed in my room until 4 in the afternoon. I will take a late afternoon tour around Alice Springs looking for birds.

It was a gorgeous afternoon and I killed 2 hours walking around in the bushes looking for birds. I found one new bird, the Pied butcherbird, so that is 5 new birds today.

And as I was alone I sat down on the bench in the playground. After 10 minutes I had 3 Yellow-Bird watching in Alice Springsthroated miner landing on a branch just above me. That's what I missed in Mareeba wetlands. Benches or some rocks to sit down on. When Aladdin, the humanAlice Springsanti-aircraft balloon comes huffin' and puffin' through the landscape the birds are soon long gone.

But to sit down for 10 minutes or so and they are used to you and they are usually coming and you can get some nice pictures. Anyway, I was more than super happy with my day. A very nice flight coming here thanks to Qantas. Beautiful birds, 5 new birds that I had never seen before, among them two parrots.

And the parrots are all over town, sitting at the outdoor restaurants, so no need to buy a parrot if you live here. Back to my room and I walked through an empty Alice Springs town centre. The town was dead. Well, I will be picked up at 06:35 tomorrow morning for a bus trip to Ayers Rock, click HERE to find out if I make it out of bed in time.
