Well, the flag of Skåne, just a BONUS flag.
Tuesday 19thof July 2016and my alarm was set to go off at 06:00 and zero 6 twenty something. Cairns Limousine Service will be here to pick me up at 11 o'clock. I felt asleep again and I didn't woke up until quarter past 8.
I was in the restaurant for breakfast at 09:20. I paid 17 dollars as I have 50% discount vouchers. The girl told me that they would close in 10 minutes. I told her that I would only have some fruit and tea so it was OK. I'm soon to discover that all the tables close to the buffet are reserved for dinner.
They directed me to a few tables at the far end of the restaurant. I was not so happy and I went to get my money back and I went to see if Tokyo Dumplings were open. I was really not expecting them to be open. But there was a coffee shop next door and I went inside for mybreakfast. I had something called a “Breakiburger”
I guess that is a name for a breakfast burger. It was bacon & egg on a brown harsh in a bun. I had asked them to take away the egg and it wasreally good. And of course, a pot of Earl Grey tea. And an almond croissant that was for sure not fresh from today.
The breakfast was very good and I continued walking towards the shopping mall where I hope to find a camera shop so I can buy a new battery for my camera.
It was an annoying rain/ drizzle and I was happy that I hadupgraded my Canon 60D to a 5D as 5D is more water resistant than the 60D.
I discovered an Australasian Figbird in a tree outside the shopping mall. A beautiful bird but it was very hard to take any pictures due to the rain.

I went inside the shopping mall and this time I walked through the department store. First day and I thought it was a department store when I went inside so I went outside again. But I had been told that there would be a camera shop in there so it was obviously more than a department store. It was a shopping mall with plenty shops on 2 floors.
And as soon as I came out from the department store I discovered plenty shops. I asked at the information desk and I was directed to a camera shop and a shop where to buy a sim card. MyGuide on board Reef Encounter had recommended Telstra.
There was a Telstra shop on the second floor, but first I went to buy the battery and it set me back with 90$. I went upstairs and I had forgotten my pass port so I could not activate the sim card. So I skipped the sim card and they willhopefully have internet at Jabiru Safari Lodge. I left the shopping mall and I walked back to the hotel.
I had asked my Guide on board Reef Encounter about the painted vans I had seen. She told me that it was campers for rent. Rent a “FUNKY” camper or something like that. She told me that therewere many people renting vans to drive along the coast.
I was back in my room at 10 thirty and I had 30 minutes to kill before Cairns Limousine Service would come to pick me up. I checked internet for what kind of bird it was that I had seen outside the shopping mall.
I found a whole lot of information and I learned that it had been an Australasian Figbird. Yet another new bird I had never seen before, and now I have 4 new birds from Australia under my belt.
I packed my bag and I went down to the reception. My driver was waiting for me. He took my bags and I went to check-out but the guy at the front desk was busy in the phone. There wasanother guy waiting as well so I just put my card on the desk.
I told him that I checked-out and I turned around and I left the place.
The other guy looked at me, then he looked at the guy still busy with the phone. He looked at me again and then he left as well.
This was very bad, one guy at the front desk and he is speaking on the phone. My driver told me that he had been there for 10 minutes trying to get the guy to call my room. But he had been busy non-stop on the phone. I told the Driver that he was lucky that it was a Swedish guy he was picking up and 11 o'clock means 11 o'clock!
We took off towards Mareeba Tropical Savanna and Wetland Reserve and the Jabiru Safari Lodge. It was raining and gloom and grey for long as we could see. But my Driver told me that it was usually very good weather as soon as we were on the other side of the mountain.
Gloom and grey for as long as we can see
We drive up the mountain and we will drive over the top 1400m above the sea level

We're coming closer to the Jabiru Safari Lodge
I try to take a picture of my first ever kangaroo
Blue-winged Kookaburra, Dacelo leachii
Not very good pictures as I could not get out of the car
Almost there
Yes, I saw my first Kangaroo, or Wallabies as they are called. Small Kangaroos up to 1 meter. The red Kangaroos get s up to 2,5 meter and I will see them in Darwin. But I never got any picture as the Kangaroo disappeared in to the bushes.
We also stopped to look at a Blue-winged Kookaburra and when I was opening the door to get outside my Driver shat himself - Don't get out in the mud!! It started when we left Pacific Hotel in Cairns. We took off and I popped open a Pepsi MAX. He turned around. - Careful!!
His boss, who he obviously was very afraid of would kick his ass if we spilled any drinks or brought mud in to the car. I got some pictures of the Blue-winged Kookaburra. But I hope I can get better pictures. Anyway, we arrived to Jabiru Safari Lodge and I said good bye. They will be back to pick me up on Thursday at 10 o'clock. To find out about Jabiru Safari Lodge, well, you just have to clickHERE. And we willhopefully experience some marvellous wildlife.
