Wednesday 11thof May 2022and I left Torshavn driving to Eysturoyvia the bridge in Oyrarbakki. I follow road # 10 and my first planned stop will be in Leivik just before the tunnel to the island Bordoy and Klaksvik, the second biggest town on Faroe Islands.
I looked around in the fishing port and it was mostly gulls there. Many many juveniles so I could not ID the gulls, but it was either black-backed or herring gulls.

Today's track at Leivik
Today's track at Haraldssund
I continue through the Norderøtunnelen that will take me to Klaksvik on Bordoy from Eysturoy. The tunnel goes under the Atlantic and then through the mountain coming out at Klagsvik.
I follow road #71 from Klagsvik and I pass over the strait at Haraldssund. There is a small strait between the island Bordoy and the island Kunoy.
Kunoy
Small island in the Faroe Islands featuring 2 small settlements & a number of mountains.
The have filled the small strait between the islands with rocks making a road so you could drive between the islands. The crossing at Haraldssund is also an eBird hotspot: but there was really not any birds, Eiders and Starlings.
There are a few houses at Haraldssund and then there is a tunnel that cross the island coming out on the west side at the village Kunoy with a very few houses.

I drive back through the tunnel and over the strait and I am back on Bordoy. I follow road #70 going towards Hvannasund at the strait between Bordoy and Viðoy, the northern most island on Faroe Islands. Coming over the strait at Haraldssund and I drive up the mountain to the tunnel going across the island.
It is actually two tunnels, the first one comes out at Árnafjørður and then I turn left and after 100 meters I am in to the second tunnel coming out on the west side of the islands. And it is two very long tunnels and they are very narrow so only in one direction at the time.
Traffic flow is regulated by traffic lights and it was red light when I reached the first tunnel. It was a very narrow and long tunnel and I was surprised when I discovered another tunnel coming out from the first tunnel.
Reaching Hvannasund and they had made a crossing over the strait to Viðoy. Hvannasund is also an eBird hotspot: but there were not many birds to report.

Reaching Viðareiði
Viðareiði
Viðareiði is the northernmost settlement in the Faroe Islands and lies on the Island of Viðoy, which belongs to the Norðoyar Region.
Driving north from Hvannasund following #70 and I take the tunnel to the east side of Viðoy and I come out at the village Viðareiði. I started my eBird app but there were not many birds to be seen. But now I have been at the northernmost village on Faroe Islands, and I have also been to the southernmost village as well. I start to drive south again and by now I think I have passed all the tunnels and bridges on Faroe Island. Only one tunnel remaining, the new tunnel, Eysturoyartunnilin from Torshavn. The tunnel connects two places on Eysturoy with an underwater roundabout.
I pay a daily fee to use the other tunnels with a toll, but Eysturoyartunnilin in not included and I really don't know how to pay. So, I have avoided this tunnel to avoid getting in to trouble.
I stop at the drug store in Klagsvik and I also stop at the supermarket to buy a picnic lunch that I enjoyed in my car. I will meet my friend tonight for a cup of tea and he lives close to Kirkjubøur and I decided to go there to have a look for the King Eider.

Whimbrel and Brent Gooses
I had no luck with the King Eider, but I spotted to Brent Gooses and they turned out as a RARE BIRD alert, the second RARE BIRD alert for me on Faroe Islands. And there are three RARE BIRD alert for the Brent Goose on Faroe Islands today at different places so it seems like they have arrived to the islands on the same day.
I had a look for the Wren today but I could not see the bird. I did a mistake when I did the recording yesterday so I would like to have a new recording. But no sign of the Wren today.

I left Kirkjubøur and I checked out eBird hotspot: Velbastadhalsen--ponds by the road before I drove to my friend's house. He was ready with the tooth from the whales and he handed them to me. I made a video to send to our friend in Thailand and he is very exciting.
He has already contacted the monk that will put power in the teeth. The monk is as excited as our friend, but he is mostly interested in seeing the foreigner again. He wants to take us out to look for birds next time we come to visit.

Tea time in DOWN TOWN Torshavn
We drove to Torshavn and it must have been a very long time since my friend have been out for a cup of tea. The Cafe turned out to be a Pub and they had not been using the coffee/ tea machine for a very long time. But my friend got his Cappuccino and I got my tea.
We were the only ones drinking tea and coffee, the rest of the guests were drinking alcohol. But it was nice and we could enjoy our tea. And we were lucky, no cake available so not bad for my blood sugar. I drove my friend back home and I was back in my apartment late again. But I can sleep a little longer tomorrow.
But I will go back to see if I can get pictures of the Brent Gooses at Kirkjubøur and we just have to clickHEREto find out if I have any luck.
