Friday 29 ^th of April 2022 and I woke up just before 4 and I checked my blood sugar and I turned on the kettle. I enjoyed the morning and at 6 o'clock the breakfast was ready and I moved outside. Tea + cheese and avocado. I bought two kilo of their cheese, taste good with a little olive oil.

The reason for us to choose to go by car today as the weather forecast. Rain, and it had rained during the early morning and it was a wee bit nippy eating breakfast outside.

I get in to the van and I buy some refreshments when we stop to fill gas in the car. Then we take off towards Constanta and the birding area, Vadu. Yet another closed down glass factory close to the beach and there are many birds in the area.

We had a nice trip through the Romanian country side and it took us about 90 minutes to reach the first eBird hotspot: Playa Vadu access and I started my app at 08:42.

Today's track at Playa Vadu access

There are many birds in the ponds and on the mudflats. But they are too far away for any good pictures. It was good with the van, open slide door and it was easy to sit in the back looking at the birds. We drove through the area and I changed my app to eBird hotspot: Plaja Vadu.

We drive through the reeds and we come out to the beach. We have seen a Marsh Harrier flying over the reeds and a Pheasant par was flushed when we passed them. A Common Redstart was sitting in a small tree. I tried to play the song, but it was another bird showing up to have a look.

I could no ID the bird and we continued. There was a lot of house cars on the beach. Long weekend coming up and this seems to be a popular place to spend it at.

Today's track at Plaja Vadu

Not much birds on the beach and we left Vadu and I wanted to get back to Verada Tour Guest House in Somova. But the hotel owner that was driving today and he talk me in to visit another birding spot. There is an eBird hotspot: that we passed coming here. So we will make a stop at eBird hotspot: Lacul Nuntasi.

We reached Lacul Nuntasi and I turned on my eBird app at 11:10. We have a huge rape seed fields on our right hand side and there is a lot of Yellow Wagtails in the area.

We leave the paved road to get out in the wilderness and we spot a Spoonbill but the bird take of before I can get a picture. The fields are full of Yellow Wagtails and we see Corn Buntings and I manage to get a few records. We drive back to the main road and I am just about to turn off my eBird app when I spot a nest with three Long-eared Owls.

Thanks to bogdannnel at Birdforum I could identify this bird.

And there was one Common Kestrel sitting in a tree across the road and this was my last picture at Lacul Nuntasi. And I was very happy with the visit to the lake.

The owner suggest another lake instead of going back to the hotel. It is on the way so I agreed to go have a visit to see if there is any birds. We did not much of any birding at Lacul Saraturii as we got stuck in the mud and I turned off my eBird app.

Today's track at Lacul Saraturii

We had to call for help and we soon had a guy coming to look. He disappeared again and he was soon back with a couple of “STRONG” men and a 4WD. Took them a few minutes and we were out of the mud an the day had turned in to a real adventure.
