Aladdin's adventure on board M/T Roy Maersk

Wednesday 11 th of December 2013 and we were anchored in Singapore when I woke up. The first thing that stroke me coming in to the mess room was that the AC had stopped. Well, I only had the time for a very quick slice of black bread before the Surveyors stepped in to my office. TheyAladdin's adventure on board M/T Roy Maerskare here to take samples, good, now this is ready when we come alongside. Pilot expected to be on board at 12 o'clock.

No time for any vetting preparations, but we had time for the pre arrival tests. Our Pilot came on board at 11:36 but we had to wait as our Surveyors wasn't ready but they leftus just after 12 and we were soon on our way to the Universal Terminal. All fast at Jetty #3 18 minutes past 2 o'clock.

And the sky opened up just before they were ready on deck. A sunny afternoon turned almost dark and it was impossible to see more than 100 meters and deck was soon full of water. Paper work and ullageing, 3 times ullageing and theAladdin's adventure on board M/T Roy MaerskSurveyor had to dip all ballast tanks and void spaces as we were missing cargo.

Maybe because of all the purging to lower the H2S in our cargo tanks on our way here from Visakhapatnam. But we could start discharging at 9 o'clock in the evening and I left the CCR at 10.

Yet another “full” day had come to an end. No lunch and dinner, and our Surveyor was hungry and I showed him where to find bread and juice. He asked why I didn't ate and I pointed at the diet bet on the bulkhead in the mess room. Well, looks like we can discharge with 3000m3/h and I will have to get up in the middle of the night. So no time to Learn Thai with Mod and the Alif Silpachai videos or my books. An episode or two with Seinfeld and I will try to get some sleep.

Thursday 12 th of December 2013
and we were lucky, the vetting Inspector arrived quarter to 8 and we had about 1 hour to go with the discharging. If we had completed the discharging the vetting would have become invalid. Now we completed the discharging at 08:42 and he had time for a tour on deck and in the CCR while we were discharging.

We did the paper work and as we were going to load on the same jetty we were pretty much ready to receive cargo when we completed our checks and checklists but we had to wait almost 3 hours for the terminal to be ready. The best thing was that we completed the vetting and it was a good inspection. 0 remarks on deck, well, 1 remark for a busted gas detector in the pump room, but that one is on order.

Well, the sensors actually came on board yesterday afternoon but no time to change. So it had been quite a good day, at least so far when I went to bed at 4 o'clock in the afternoon.

Friday 13 th of December 2013
and we left Universal Terminal just before 4 o'clock in the morning and as we're taking bunkers and stores we're bound for the anchorage. We dropped the anchor atAladdin's adventure on board M/T Roy MaerskSudong 1 hour after departure, second time dropping the anchor. At the first position we were too close to two other ships. It is VERY hard to find space to drop the anchor around here withmillions of ships anchored around Singapore.

Our Cook left us first thing after dropping the anchor and I was in bed at 6 o'clock and I slept until 1 o'clock when they called for a new cargo calculation. My snus was arriving when I stepped in to my office. Our Chief Engineer called me just before I left my cabin.
Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st- PROBLEM!!
Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st- What?
Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st- The don't want to take your computer
Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st- Did they bring snus?
Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st- No
Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st- WHAT THE F***Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st

Well, this had obviously been another supplier because when I stepped in to my office the Wrist representative came on board. He took my capsized Toshiba and I got my 80 cans of snus.

Saturday 14 th of December 2013
and I overslept and I didn't got out of bed until 9 o'clock. I was in bed at 11 o'clock but I was tossin' and turnin' until the wee hours. And I didn't woke up until 1 o'clock in the afternoon yesterday.

I can't even remember the alarm going off so I was obviously dead tired when my alarm went offYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stthis morning, Well, One day I go to bed at 6 thirty in the morning and the next dayAladdin's adventure on board M/T Roy Maerskthe work is starting at 8 thirty in the morning, so of course there will be problem with the sleep and the nights are easily turning in to days and the opposite.

I ran in to our 2nd Officer and we went to check out what the crew did. We also received new personal gas detectors in Singapore and we calibrated them before the coffee break.

Chittagong and it seems like we will have to eat Malaria tablets so I checked the information.

1 tablet per day starting 1 day before arrival and we have to eat them until 7 days after departure so it will be about 11 tablets per crew member so we willhave to make a new requisition and the new medicine will hopefullyYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stAladdin's adventure on board M/T Roy Maerskbe delivered next time in Singapore.

Our Cadet had baked some very good bread and I was almost full by the time it was time for lunch. And as I was late for dinner the food was finished and I was eating bread with my tea.

Night time and I was wide awake when it was time for bed, yeah, after walking around half asleep for a full day I was really looking forward to some sleep. Wide awake as soon as I went to bed.

Sunday 15 th of December 2013
and we're steaming NNW West of Thailand and we're having beautiful weather. I received an e-mail from my reliever and he have got all his documents and he is ready to join. I answered that he can come in Singapore next time, but I also wrote him that I can stay on board a wee bit longer if he want to be home for New Year.

Monday 16 th of December 2013
and we will have a meeting in the duty mess at 11 o'clock to hand out malaria medicine for those who want. Chittagong and in the river so we need to start eatingAladdin's adventure with Pepsi Light on board M/T Roy Maerskthe malaria pills one day before arrival. And that's tomorrow as we arrive on Wednesday.

And when I was ready with the malaria adventure I made a requisition for 400 new tablets andMalariait was time for lunch.

It was a very quick lunch and there was some cargo calculations to do. No time for my constitutionalYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stand I tried to get the time for it in the afternoon, but suddenly it was time for dinner and the day had come to an end. And I went on deck with Pump Man just before we finished for the day, I wasYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stabout to blow overboard. The day started with a sea looking like a windmill pond and now we had strong wind and sea water spraying over deck.

Tuesday 17 th of December 2013
and it was a wee bit cold in the morning, the sea water temp have dropped to 26°C and we had 25°C in the air at 11 o'clock. The computer in my cabin went out with aAladdin's adventure with Pepsi Light on board M/T Roy Maerskbang a few days ago. Well, at least with aToshiba Qoismopling. Anyway, we were going to install a new computer and we needed to make a boot disk from the bridge computer.

We didn't had much luck with the boot disc, well, I guess the boot disk is OK but the newToshiba Qoismocomputer say something about disk error or something and I gave up. Well, I got news yesterday that I will sign off in Chittagong so never mind the computer.

By now I have had enough problemToshibawith computers and the Toshiba, on top of all the time and money spent on that piece of crap I will have to ask them to send the wreck to Bangkok as I'm not coming back to Singapore.

Our Cook is making Kålpudding, Jesus, I have not had Kålpudding in many many years. The flip side of not having any Swedish crew and Cooks on board anymore. But as our Danish Cadet has taken over as a Cook we can do some extravagant food.

I was really looking forward to the Kålpudding for dinner and I stopped in the kitchen on my way toYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stmy office to give our Cook a few pointers. OK, I was also checking the status ofAladdin's adventure with Odense Nougat on board M/T Roy Maerskour Odense Nougat, maybe most because of the Odense Nougat. Yes, I'm pretty sure the Odense nougat was the main reason for me to go to the kitchen.

And I stepped in to the kitchen in the nick of time. Our Cook had started with the cabbage and there wasn't much of it. Instant disappointment.
Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st- Is that it??!!
- Isn't that enough?
Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st- PLEASE!!
He was quickly chopping up more cabbage for the Kålpudding and I was satisfied

Our Hero was not impressed by the amount of cabbage he used and he reacted forcefully

Now it start to look like something

I was happy with the amount of cabbage and I started to ask him about the Odense Nougat. He told me that there were less of the Odense Nougat today.
Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st- What theYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st
- One pack is missing after your last visit
- Your kidding!
I went in to the store and there were three packs remaining.
- What theYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st? Here was four pack yesterday!
- One missing after your visit yesterday
Well, if there is only three pack remaining we can as well take one more, I suggested and ourAladdin's adventure with Odense Nougat on board M/T Roy MaerskCook/ Cadet agreed. He will sign off with me in Chittagong and we decided to have something to munch on at the airport.
- I bring one more pack to my cabin, I said.
- Yeah, then we have some “Jule slikk” at the air port.
- Exactly, and the Cook coming will most likely not appreciate the Odense Nougat, I said.

I left the kitchen for my office and I did two different discharge plans, one for 6 pumps and oneAladdin's adventure with Odense Nougat on board M/T Roy Maerskfor 2 pumps. We expect a very slow rate here and it will most likely be 2 pumps only.

I finished everything in my “Cargo Transfer Plan” binder. Only the ship/ shore pre transfer agreement remaining, and the weather/ tide information. I could get the weather/ tide information today and this would be ready.

So I called the bridge.
Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st- Hello! Can you please print the weather/ tide info for me
Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st- No problem
Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st- I'll be there in a jiff!
Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st- Looking forward to it!

I went on the bridge and our 2nd Officer and Cadet were busy doing something, but they had printed the information I need for the discharge plan and I'm almost ready. By now it was wayAladdin's adventure with Odense Nougat on board M/T Roy Maerskpast 5 and I went to my cabin to make a bucket of tea before dinner.

Arriving to the mess room 10 minutes late, there were still kålpudding and I filled up my plate. I spotted a giant cake and the crew started to pester me about the “dietYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stbet” and the cake.
- Black bread is better!
- Oh yeah!

Our 2nd Officer had the biggest piece of cake I have ever seen.
- Mmm, it is so good!
Yeah, good while eating but you feel like shit when you're finished with the eating. And on top of that the agony for destroying the diet. So no, a slice of black bread with cheese is enough for me.

Well, will I have time to Learn Thai with Mod and the Alif Silpachai videos tonight, most likely. But will I watch the Learn Thai with Mod and the Alif Silpachai videos tonight? Most likely not.

Approaching Chittagong in Bangladesh and we expect to arrive to the anchorage tomorrow afternoon. No berthing prospects, but I will split the month of December 2013 in to a third part . So hang on! Chittagong can be exciting. Well, most likely not, but I'm signing off.
