Aladdin's adventure aboard M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maersk

Wednesday 22 nd of April 2015 and they called me at 1 o'clock, it was about 15 minutes to go. I had a shower and I grabbed my last can of Pepsi MAX (That I kept in my cabin) and went toAladdin's adventure aboard M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskthe bridge. We were approaching Skandiahamnen when I came on the bridge.

I had started one can of Pepsi MAX in my cabin before going on the bridge so I actually brought one and a half can.

Well, the half can of Diet MAX was empty in a jiff and I enjoyed my last can while passing Skandiahamnen approaching Jetty 510 in Skarvik. It was a beautiful night even thoigh it was a wee bit chilli. First line ashore at 02:00 and we had all fast at 02:30.

Paper work and calculation and we could start loading at 06:18. I went to bed and I hope there is an reply from Götaplatsens Foto when I woke up, I have sent them an inquiry about the Canon EFAladdin's adventure aboard M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maersklenses and the Canon EOS 5D Mark III body. So maybe I can go ashore to buy some camera equipment in the afternoon.

Well, I got an reply from Götaplatsens Foto in the afternoon and they didn't had the Canon 70-200/2,8 IS USM II or the Canon 28-300/3,5-5,6 L IS USM in the shop. A few days delivery and they could not sell duty free and only with European warranty. They had te Canon 5D Mark III but, well, I will do the shopping in Bangkok.

I spent time with our Security advisor in the afternoon and at 4 o'clock I called the jetty man and asked him if he could arrange a taxi for us in 20 minutes I had a shower and when I was back inAladdin's adventure aboard M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskthe CCR our Pump Man and one of our ABs were waiting for me and we left forTaxi Göteborgthe taxi. The taxi arrived just as we reached the road passing the jetty.

A few days ago and they started some EXERCISEYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stcompetition on board, yes, we were joined by two young Cadets in Aabenraa.

Didn't take long before theyYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.sthad arranged for 3 different competitions. Bicycling, running and rowing and there is a price winner in each of theevent. And it is not about being quick, it is about how long distance you can cover in one month. Our Pump Man will take part in the competition and he want to buy jogging shoes.

We took a taxi to Backaplan and we bought shoes for Pump Man and then we went to look for a shop so I could buy a SIM card for my phone. Of course, we passed a place with soft ice cream.

We got our soft ice creams and we enjoyed them while crossing the road to a supermarket. We were looking for oatmeal and more of the Diet MAX . Yes, I was worried when I got four cases of Diet MAX inAladdin's adventure aboard M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe MaerskAabenraa. Is it possible to finish these before it is time to go home?

I was also going to buy a new tea cup for our new Captain. And someone had asked the AB to buy Pringles. We passed a shop where we bought a SIM for my phone so now I will get internet. We stopped to look for a tea cup but they didn't had anything we wanted. The girl told us that there were plenty to choose from. Yeah, as I said: Plenty of shit to chooseAladdin's adventure aboard M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskfrom! We left for the Supermarket next door. We had also plans to visit a restaurant before returning to the ship.

We found oatmeal and I also bought 3 packs of socks as I had forgot my socks at home. Our pump Man and AB were soon gone and when I ran in to them again their baskets were full of snacks.

I wanted to have small bottles and I asked a guy if they had cases with Diet MAX and he went to check it out. No luck and as we didn't fancy carrying around hundreds of small bottles we bought big bottles. I was disappointed but it is better than nothing. And it is actually quite good if I can find a wine glass.

Yeah, drinking form a wine glass taste better than from the can or bottle. I can't remember that I had seen any wine glasses on board but I might get lucky. Worst case scenario, an ordinary drinking glass.

We had everything and we were working our way towards the cashier when the AB remembered that he wanted vitamins and we went to look for vitamins. By now we had quite a lot to carry andAladdin's adventure aboard M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskwe were walking around Backaplan looking for a restaurant. Well, the taxi driver had told us that here would be so many restaurants.

Well, nothing we wanted to call a restaurant. Asian buffet, the place had a funky smell and we left. We crossed Backaplan and we ended up at a place called Flintstone. A fast food place and we ordered pizza. This was for sure not the kind of restaurant we had wished forYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stwhen we went ashore. Well, we had got soft ice cream. We only ate two of the three pizzas we ordered andour Pump Man asked for a box for the third pizza and we brought it back for the gangway watch.

I didn’t feel so good when we left Flintstone. But I had got soft ice cream, Diet MAX and oatmeal so I was quite happy anyway. I had to go through quite a lot of trouble before I got the data transfer to work on my phone. Send SMS to Comviq to get the settings and then it worked as it should.

We expect to complete early tomorrow morning so I need sleep, but will I be able to sleep. Now I had have plenty Diet MAX to drink and I’m afraid it will be a wee bit hard to fall asleep tonight. But it is pretty much the same every day.

Thursday 23 rd of April 2015
and they called me at 4 o'clock in the morning, about an hour after I managed to fall asleep. I had a very hot shower before going to the CCR where I popped open aAladdin's adventure aboard M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe MaerskDiet MAX first thing. We completed loading at 06:18 and our Pilot was booked for 10 o'clock. Well, for 9 o'clock but it was changed to 10

Our pilot had been in school with me on Kvarnberget back in the 80's and he recognised me instantly. I had not seen him since we finished school back in the, well, a very long time ago. He told me that he followed “Aladdin's adventure” and of course I asked how he knewAladdin's adventure aboard M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskabout “Aladdin'sYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stadventure”.

Well, as he said: The whole Swedish merchant navy know about www.aladdin.st

Well, and he was not sorry when I brought out my camera later on when I came on the bridge.

We left Jetty # 510 in Skarvikshamnen twenty minutes before 11 and I was soon in my cabin, dead tired but I will try to stay up. Then it willYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.sthopefully be easy to fall asleep tonight so I can have a full night of quality sleep.

I felt a sleep and my alarm clock was ringing for an hour with me sleeping. I woke up just in time for my watch a few minutes before 4 in the afternoon. Anchored South of Trubaduren L/H. But we received orders to go to Immingham for orders and we were on the way at 19:00.

Bangkok Post new design
Leaving Sweden behind and I still have several GB of unused data on my new SIM card. The 4G is amazing, several times faster than my Bangkok internet. I got a look at Bangkok Post's new design and, well, it is OK. Except the slide show with the headlines.

Friday 24 th of April 2015
and it was still a wee bit of rough sea when I came on the bridge 10Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stminutes after 4 in the morning. I felt asleep after the wakeup call. Or did they forgot to call me?Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stWell, anyway, they called again 5 minutes past 4 and I was on theYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stbridge 5 minutes later after the quickest glass of Diet MAX I have ever had.

The weather improved fast and we were soon having a gorgeous morning. The wind decreased by the minutes so I was disappointed, at least to say when I came to my office after my power nap. 10Aladdin's adventure aboard M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maersko'clock and it was gloom andYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stgrey for as long as we could see. Cold in the wind and the summer was nowhere to be seen.

Gloom and grey, rain? Bring it on! I was in a quite good mood. I pooped open a FAMILY SIZE bottle of Diet MAX and I poured my “snaps” glass before I checked the cargo temperatures.

We topped up IG gas in our cargo tanks and I prepared my discharging papers and discharge plan. IT was 2 o’clock in the afternoon before I was back in my cabin. Will there be time to Learn Thai with Mod and theAladdin's adventure aboard M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe MaerskAlif Silpachai videos before going on my watch at 4 o'clock?

I tried to sleep, failed and I was not happy to have missed the opportunity to have learned some Thai with Alif Silpachai and Mod. NotYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.steven a minute with my books, well, they have not been open for a very long time by now.

And on top of this it was dense for when I came on the bridge. Well, dense is too much to call it, but it was foggy. Not much traffic, only one ship I had to give way to. Well, we had a CPA of one mile and he was crossing my bow. But as a courtesy I changed 20° to starboard to show him that I had seen him as it was poor visibility.

Saturday 25 th of April 2015
and it is the day for the Maersk Tankers Global Safety Day here on board Romø Mærsk. And we will “kick off” the Maersk Tankers Global Safety Day after the coffeeMaersk Tankers Global Safety Daybreak in the afternoon.

Well, coming on the bridge at 4 o'clock and as we had retarded the ship's time by an hour during the night it wasYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stlike 5 o'clock. But getting a wake up call at 4 thirty is worse than a call at 3 thirty.

Guess the sleep is deeper at 4 thirty than at 3 thirty. Well, anyway, I discovered that the fog from yesterday was gone. Not much wind to write home about and I was soon enjoying my tea and a “Oatmeal Surprise”

Time turned quick and it was soon time to go back to bed for a power nap. I was tired, but I don't know why, maybe because of the Maersk Tankers Global Safety Day, I had a hard time falling a sleep.

It was soon 3 o'clock in the afternoon and when the crew had have their coffee we went in to the mess room. I had the crew to stand up against the wall for a picture and a head count so I could split them up in to groups. I had printed 5 work books as I had expected the full crew to join. But we're approaching Immingham anchorage so some people are busy.

The reason for me to choose the guy with the best hand writing to head each group?
I have them to do the work shop in their work book and we only need to scan them
and send back ashore. Feedback and answers ready at the same time we
completed the Maersk Tankers Global Safety Day and no need to write any report etc.

Maersk Tankers Global Safety Day

2 of the ABs had to leave just before we completed the Maersk Tankers Global Safety Day as they were required for dropping our anchor. And we were anchored when I came on the bridge 10 minutes past 5. Well, they were about to slack out the last of the anchor chain and 2nd Officer was on the bridge 20 minutes before 6 and I went for my Saturday dinner.

and what a difference it was from yesterday. Gloom and grey and passing showers had turned in to sunshine and decreased wind force.

The wind was gone in the evening, still some swell so we were rolling slowly at the anchorage. Time was pretty quick and a eventless day had come to an end without me having a chance to get boredYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.steven though nothing happened. Well, OK, I did laundry during the day and that was the most exciting that happened during the day.

But tomorrow it will be a totally different tune. Start to pressure test our heating coils, I suspect that this will be a 2 day job. And that is if we don’t run in to any unpleasant problem. And we will compare our cargo tank thermometers with the UTI.

We started with the pressure test of the heating coils after 10 and time was turningAladdin's adventure aboard M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskquickly and it was soon timeYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stfor lunch.

I was alone in the mess room, well, I was soon joined by our Cadets and the 2nd Officer. The Engineers arehaving their lunch in the duty mess as they wear their boiler suits

Chief Engineers had been in my office before lunch and he took pictures of me and now he was looking for the pictures to show the rest of the Engineers. Well, turned out that it was not so easy to find the picture so he had to come off with something else, a picture he took on theAladdin's adventure aboard M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskbridge some weeks ago.

I should had plans to Learn Thai with Mod and the Alif Silpachai videos in the afternoon, but I watched some video and I was soon asleep. I have been tired since IYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stjoined the ship, not much sleep, an hour here and a hour there.

I woke up in the nick of time, 5 minutes before 4 in the afternoon and I made it in time to the bridge. We're stillanchored but a gorgeous morning had turned in to a windy afternoon. And it looked like it could start to rain any second.

Time turned pretty quick and yet anotherday had soon come to an end and I could return to my bed. But first a glass of Diet MAX or two. Just to make it a little bit harder for me to fall asleep.

Tuesday 28 th of April 2015
and we're still anchored when I come on the bridge a few minutes before 4 o'clock in the morning. Strong wind blowing from SW.

Berthing prospects, 05:30 on the 1st of May and they expect us to leave in the evening on the 2nd of May. By then it is soon time for me to sign off and I'm already delirious with anticipation toPolar Bear Quest on Svalbardmeet the polar bears. For sure, yet another adventure of a life time. The wind decreased during the evening and I had a nice evening on the bridge, still cloudy but I hope this change for tomorrow. Well, yet another day have come to an end. And we have plenty excitements to look forward to for tomorrow. We will complete the pressure test of the heating coils, three tanks remaining and we are also looking forward to some drills. and yet another morning on Immingham anchorage. We had a wind force 7 coming in from the South and it started to rain just before breakfast. I had a power nap, not long enough, but I have to take the cargo temperatures @ 10 and after that we will kick off our drills. Life raft davit and rescue from enclosed space in the engine room.

The emergency exit is a shaft leading from the bottom of the engine room up on deck. And we had to hoist him up through the shaft.

We got our next voyage after the lunch, loading in ARA and discharging in Nouadhibou, Mauritanian and that means a new adventure in Africa for our hero.

and I came on the bridge 5 minutes before 4 in the morning. 2nd Officer had forgot to call me but I have my new LG Phone as a back-up alarm after the last fewYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stAladdin's adventure aboard M/T Romø Mærsk/ Romoe Maerskfiascos trying to get out of bed in time.

Strong wind and overcast. A beautiful sun rise, but there was only a small gap between the horizon and the clouds so the sun was soon behind clouds. But I managed to get a picture.

Looks to be my last morning watch on Immingham anchorage as we will go up River Humber early tomorrow morning in order to come alongside at 05:30. And as we will arrive early in the morning we spent the day doing all the pre arrival tests and checks.

And the crew went to bed after having prepared the mooring ropes after lunch. It always feelgood to have completed the checks before arrival and there is no need to get out of bed extra early to do everything before the cargo operation.

But most important is that it is possible for me to relax not having to do the checks knowing that everything is in good working order.

Well, we're ready to come alongside and it will be nice to leave the anchorage going up River Humper. Pilot boarding time 01:45 and I willYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.sthopefully be asleep by then. Well, anyway, the month of May will start by us coming alongside and you just need to click HERE to find out if we manage to arrange some Diet MAX and juice for my e-cig.
