Day 25: Kanha

After breakfast take sightseeing to Kanha, Take safari at Kanha zone, etc. Enjoy Jeep safari in Jungle, A must see for all nature enthusiasts, Kanha gives you a perfect opportunity to escape the mundane city hustle bustle and get lost in the wooded charm of the dense forest. Later return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Friday 29 th of January 2016 and they knocked on my door at 05:45 and it was not so very easy to get out of bed. But the excitement of the early morning safari helped a lot. I was in the dining hallKanha Jungle Lodgefor a cup of tea at 6.

It was cold, but not as coldIce cold in Kanhaas it had been back in Bandhavgarh. But cold enough for them to have a camp fire in the dining hall. A cup of English breakfast tea that I enjoyed standing up with 3 or maybe 4 biscuits. Took me a few minutes and then we went to the jeep.

They had a rubber bottle with hot water and 2 blankets for me in the jeep, and they had also prepared a ladder for me to get up in the jeep.
- Please, how old do you think I am?

I have been in and out of these jeeps with a swing since I arrived to India. But it was kind of nice with the small ladder. I wrapped myself in the blankets and we were soon on our way to the gateTiger Safari in Kanha Tiger Reserveand the Kanha Zone.

It took us a few minutes to reach the gate and there were a few jeeps waiting already. My driver asked for my passport and I had to find my way to the shirt pocket through the blankets.

While my driver was away I studied the area and they had a big fire going on across the street and people were standing around the fire warming themselves. It was still dark and I was hoping for the sun to come up soonTiger Safari in Kanha Tiger Reserveso it will get warmer. But no hope for the sun for at least one and a half hour.

My driver was soon back with my passport and the Guide. The Guide took his seat in the back and we were ready for some fun.

The queue of jeeps were soon start moving and we entered the Kanha Zone around 6 thirty in the morning. And below you can see some of the picture I took in Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book land, enjoy!

Among others I have used Peter Ericsson's web page Birds of Thailand These galleries contain 668 species of the Birds of Thailand and have been of a great help to identify some of the birds as the birds in Thailand and India are, well, many of them are the same.

I have had most help from my friend, the bird pal I met at Suan Rot Fai. Sending pictures of birds I have not been able to identify to him via Line. 3 minutes later he and he have managed to identify most of the birds I have had problems with. THANKS! Visit his web page m☥lever for his beautiful pictures.

And my new aid, maybe, and I say maybe the best aid. I brought my mobile phone as my SIM card have stopped working and I tried to get it to work again so I can use the internet. Thus I had my phone in my pocket on my first game drive in Jim Corbett National Park.

We saw a bird and I asked my Guide and the driver if they had a pen and a paper as I had forgot my pen and paper in my room. I remembered my LG phone and I recorded the name. And thus I will always bring my phone. Writing the name in the car and I have found more than once that it can be hard to read what I had wrote when I'm back in my room.

So now I always have my mobile in my pocket and it has been a great help.

Of course, all bird pictures available on my Indian
bird checklist of bird I have seen by clicking HERE

Of course, I have seen many many more, but this list is for birds I managed to get on picture

Some of the pictures are OK, and some of them are straight up in a very poor quality

We had a beautiful morning in the tiger reserve. I had given up seeing nay tigers when we drove towards the gate and our hotel when we saw a tiger, it was very far away. But i could see that it was a tiger. Too far away for a picture and the tiger was between us and the sun.

We hears one tiger roaring in the morning and it sounded like a motorcycle and I really don't know what’s most impressing, to see the tiger or to hear the tiger roar.

Anyway, we drove back to Kanha Jungle Lodge for cheese and onion omelette with tea and toast. I asked the driver to stop on the bridge so I could take a few pictures of the old bridge. Built by the British back in the time, but it was under water during the monsoon so a new bridge was required. And as usually in Indian rivers, they did the laundry in the river water

An excellent breakfast and I went to my room to check out my pictures and at 14 thirty we're off for the afternoon safari. And I'm looking forward to the safari in the afternoon.

Time turned very quickly while I was in my cabin and it was soon time to go back to the park and we will drive in the Mukki Zone. We left the Kanha Jungle Lodge and we arrived to the gate 20 minutes before 3 o'clock. Register and we had to wait until 3 before the gate opened.

We entered the park and first stop was the water pond 5 minutes’ drive from the gate. And you can see some of the pictures I took during the afternoon safari.

It had been a gorgeous day in the park. A tiger in the morning, well, the tiger was very far away. But we had seen many beautiful birds. Dinner at 7 thirty and it was very good, BBQ chicken andTiger Safari in Kanha Tiger Reservepasta with tea and naan. It will be the same tomorrow and the day after. Why changing a winning concept? The only thing I don't like is the 05:45 wake-up call.

Well, I would not mint the Waiters to understand “NO” when they bring refill after refill of the food. I told them that tomorrow it is maximum 1 omelette andToast at Kanha Jungle Lodge4 toast. If I ask for more they shall kick my behind.

They promised to do so and I hope this works out well. So let's see if I can make it out of early tomorrow morning. Just click HERE to see if we see any tigers. But the most interesting will be to see if they manage to stop me from eating too much of their excellent omelette and toast.

OK, it has come to my knowledge that we have senior citizens visiting my web page. How hard can it be? So it's not very easy for them to see the blue coloured links to the next page.
