Thursday 1stof December 2016and they had some problem at the immigration. It started already on the flight, they didn't had any landing cards fro the immigration on board. And there was no landing cards at the airport. So I thought that maybe we didn't needed any landing card.
And I cannot remember if I had to fill up a landing card last time I arrived to India.
And the fingerprint scanner, what a joke. None was working and they only had one rag to wipe off the scanner with. So this rag was sent between the immigration officers. My guy gave up, he said that they had my finger prints already from last time I was in India.
But the girl next to me continued to try to scan her fingers, I don't know how it ended for her as I was off to get my luggage. Custom and I just walked through and no one bothered me. But to get a taxi was a different story.
I don't know how far away my hotel, The Park Kolkata is. And I didn't want to go look for taxi. But there was the Prepaid taxi option. The queue was very long and when I finally came up to the desk they asked if I wanted an AC taxi. They told me to go back to gate 4 and the guy at the taxi desk followed me. I stopped to change 50 US Dollars before we went out to the taxi.
We drove through an almost empty Calcutta. It was 2 thirty in the morning and there wasn't many cars on the roads. When we approached one of the rail way stations there was a lot of trucks and people loading and discharging goods. It was kind of nice to drive through Calcutta in the middle of the night, and that was even though I was dead tired. I was in my room at 3 o'clock and I set the alarm to go off at 9 o'clock.
I stop at Lawson 108
I get a case of Pepsi MAX
We find a paper box, but no tape or string
We find a paper box, but no tape or string So I have to come back tomorrow
I'm back with a string after my second whale watching and now the box is ready to bring home. And more important, it is ready to be checked in to flight TG 313 to Calcutta.

I open a bottle first thing
My alarm went of at 9 o'clock and I was in the restaurant just before 10 o'clock. I like the hotel and my room was kind of FUNKY, and this time it is the good funky as in funky music. The restaurant, of course, the break fats buffet was catering to Indian customers. But there was more than enough to satisfy me. Not like Marina Plaza in Helsingborg. But I was pleasantly surprised with the breakfast here at hotel The Park Kolkata.
They will come from Just travel India at 5 o'clock in the afternoon so I have a few hours to kill. Iwent to look for a supermarket and Pepsi Light, I found ZIP. I went down to the park, and it looked to be, well, not a place I wanted to visit. I turned around and I walkedback to my hotel. Well, it was actually limping back to the hotel.
Outside my hotel
Outside my hotel and I get an idea
There were taxis waiting along the street outside the hotel. I wanted to go check out the town and Sudder Street where I had lived when I was here 25 years ago. But I didn't wanted to go inone of those taxis. I came up with a idea! I will see if the hotel have a car and adriver, the best idea ever.
They would charge me 1800 ₹ for 5 hours, that's the deal they have. I will only use the car for 3 or 4 hours, but 1800 ₹ are OK. The car would be ready in an hour and they would call me in myroom when the car is ready.
Yes, Calcutta sight-seeing by car, the way to do it. I wanted to see if I recognised anything from last time I was here. And walking is not an option, these people...
At first you think they are nice. - Hello, where do you come from? - Blah blah bla - Blah blah bla - Nice and very nice - Nice and very nice
You enjoy yourself exchanging pleasantries and suddenly BANG! They want to sell something, what a shame! And you go on like this with 3 or 4 people and then you just tell everyone to bugger off. What a shame, you have a lot of nice people here and you miss them because of th every firs few A-holes!
My car is ready and we can start the tour

Howrah Bridge over the Hooghly River
We stop at one of the Ghats and I walked along the river
Howrah Bridge
is a cantilever bridge with a suspended span over the Hooghly River in West Bengal, India. Commissioned in 1943, the bridge was originally named the New Howrah Bridge, because it replaced a pontoon bridge at the same location linking the two cities of Howrah and Kolkata (Calcutta). On 14 June 1965 it was renamed Rabindra Setu after the great Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore, who was the first Indian and Asian Nobel laureate. It is still popularly known as the Howrah Bridge.
The Hooghly River
(Bengali: হুগলী নদী) (Hugli; Anglicized alternatively spelled Hoogli or Hugli) or the Bhāgirathi-Hooghly, called 'Ganga' traditionally, is an approximately 260-kilometre-long distributary of the Ganga river in West Bengal, India. It splits from the Ganges as a canal in Murshidabad District at the Farakka Barrage. The town of Hugli-Chinsura, formerly Hooghly, is located on the river, in the Hooghly (district). The origins of the Hooghly name are uncertain, whether the city or the river was named first.
Ghat
As used in many parts of Northern South Asia, the term ghat refers to a series of steps leading down to a body of water, particularly a holy river. In Bengali-speaking regions, this set of stairs can lead down to something as small as a pond or as large as a major river.

We had crossed the 2 biggest bridges in Calcutta and I was happy with my sight-seeing trip. Well, we never found any Pepsi Light. But I have my box with Pepsi MAX in my room, but I will have to be careful with them or I will soon run out.
The came here from Just Travels India and we will leave here at 07:45 tomorrow morning. I asked for a 6 o'clock wake up call in the reception and they asked if I wanted tea. - Yes, please!
My old trick, wake up call with tea. Then I will have to stay up finish my tea and not go back to bed. Well, a new adventure ahead of me tomorrow, a road trip to Sundarbans and the tiger safari. A little something to look forward to, just clickHEREto find yourself in the middle of that adventure. If everything turns out well we will be on the first safari tomorrow afternoon.
